Also I want to make a suggestion so that alien barges don't take 20 hours of playtime to complete, please make the threshhold for bug hunt lower because I've been looking for what I assume is an alien on the outside surface of the ship for over 40 turns now.

Not able to do anything with this advice but thank you, I mostly am just doing some save scumming because it feels like the enemies are rapidly teching up while I'm very slowly researching, I think I should have been spending more but I wanted to save up but I think that was a huge mistake and should have been playing a lot more around selling my gear and loot instead of whatever I had been doing that was clearly wrong.

Ok so playing on Beginner and lost within a year because all the terror missions spawned on the opposite side of the globe from my base and by the time I finally got another base going I got -853 monthly rating and lost after save scumming a lot on a base assault from Lobstermen and only having a single drill weapon.

There is no research that I'm aware of that blocks you out of future progress, if that's what you mean.
Obviously there are a lot of things where your progress is locked behind researching X, and sometimes it may be challenging to get X.

Ok ty, I'm abandoning my last two week run because I can't get sonics and mind worms hit through LoS limiter and then when I tried to do a new game without MC the mods broke so now I can't play at all, not sure what to do.

Avenger is talking about the missile strikes, to be more precise, and asking which .rul files he needs to edit to turn them off.

In the mean time, gonna repeat the advice given in the missile strike thread:

Build more/better radars/sonars, so that you could detect the missile-launching USOs and destroy them before the missiles could be launched.

Build more/better defenses, as a safety net.

I thought having two radars would be enough but I guess not cause I don't see the enemy craft bombing me.  I am not familiar with the changes so I'm also stuck unable to figure out what to research in order to use alien tech.

I'm really loving the mod so far but I need help with the research tree and how I can disable the invisible attacks that damage the base buildings as it has completely kept me from doing anything.

Thank you for this input, I was searching for what was going on and thought this was it, Google is not what it used to be when it comes to searching for stuff.  I don't have any way to detect or intercept these attacks it's just kinda scripted?   Not a fan of this idea but I'll see if I  can disable it somehow, it's completely ended my run since it is constantly destroying all my radars and sub pens and I can't do anything about it.

No I don't have any defenses, do they prevent this? It's something I don't remember in the original game, maybe it's a World Of Terrifying Silence only thing. I just need a setting to turn whatever it is off, I like how the settings can be changed but I didn't see any options for that.

I don't  see a setting for it on the options menu, also some of the options I can't edit for some reason.

The problem isn't 'difficulty' it is lack of interaction, there is no craft to shoot down or intercept, it's just randomly my sub pen gets deleted or my radars get deleted, I also can't figure out what to research to do things. I need a user manual for this mod or some such, I was really enjoying it until random parts of my base started blowing up.

Yeah this feature is garbage, how do I disable it because I am sick of my base randomly losing buildings and submarines to invisible things.  Also is there a way to keep the game from spawning terror missions every few days, I can't even figure out how to get alien stuff and the world is filling up with alien bases because I can't research fast enough.
