error "Sprite AIR1_BACKGROUND.SCR not found "
game updated n8 ->n9, no crash on n8 version

I encountered the same problem.
Seems like a simple missing ressource mapping.
Attached is a temporary fix I made myself for the time being, just replace your Piratez_Resources.rul with this one.
Or modify it yourself, all I did was add these lines:

  - typeSingle: AIR1_BACKGROUND.SCR
    fileSingle: Resources/Backgrounds/Air1_BCK.gif
