Troubleshooting / Mac Installation Woes...

Apologies if there's already a thread on this subject - I did have a look and couldn't find one...
I've got the Steam version of X-COM: Enemy Unknown, and I'm trying to get it working with OpenXcom 1.0 for OSX. I've followed the instructions here:

In a variety of ways, merging the named folders with the existing files, copying the folders over the ones in the OpenXcom package, and every variation I can think of, but I always get the same result - it fails to run, and the log says [19-06-2014 19:44:02] [FATAL] yaml-cpp: error at line 0, column 0: bad file.
What am I doing wrong?
