Suggestions / Re: UFO Extender accuracy discussion
« on: January 11, 2019, 08:45:06 pm »
im making a translation and i need to know if this affects aliens so i can put it in the description text.

and i think that no amount of changes will make a chance based system right.
answer a question: will those soldiers rely on luck(chance) to hit?
if i was one of them, i would not. its all a matter of many circumstances and they can not be simulated by a general purpose random number generator.
forget that someone once upon a time created a flawed system and think how would you simulate whats going on on the battlefield.

have you played frontline tactics? every shot is a hit(no cth bs). and that does not make the game any worse than x-com as a tactical turn based game with firearms combat(atleast for me).
answer my first line ;)

i saw it now. it takes restart to apply and "Changes soldier Battlescape sprites to match their inventory look." does not say enough.
thanks

i cant seem to notice what "enhaced soldier sprites" option does.
ill just slap a "does nothing" translation unless someone shows me what it does.

"seriously?"?!
im serious most of the time. can you be more specific about whats not serious?
i said how i can contribute to the project.
i complained that i can not and gave the reason.
i said that I and probably others like me are not willing to bother with needlessly complicated things.
also there is the dont answer request that was there to stop those following nonsense posts from happening.
as an addition i will say that the current bg translation is not good appart from being incomplete which provoked my response to its existence in that state.
im sorry for your inconvenience but someone has to care.
as a moderator, bruce, feel free to delete this post as i consider it a personal message to you. i dont want to abuse the report system
happy new year

ahh! i can edit a text file and upload it but this transiwhatever is too much for me.
why does it have to be so complicated?! ???
dont answer. theres no much interest in bg transation anyway. but think about your future ways of cooperation, openxcom team. "we" dont hustle with the stuff you do and "we" dont want to.

Work In Progress / Re: Better graphics guide

I said ill try this on my intel gma graphics, so I did. scalling worked fine but their opengl is older or incomplete so ogl mode don't work. interesting thing was cpu usage which was exactly as on my other pc. cpus are quite different in performance. also "slower" cpu produced more fps. another oddness. well maybe when game is officially released devs might optimize it a bit better.

SABR shader is a key factor for the "better graphics". one of those days ill try this on 2 intel gma integrated gpus and see if it runs slow. although there is no need for better graphics on such hardware.

im glad someone found that useful.
so Greg956 I would suggest you to try "baseYResolution: 405" and baseXResolution: 960, but im not really sure. this monitors are advertised as 21:9. I have just discovered that such monitors exist so I really don't know.

Work In Progress / Better graphics guide /* OBSOLETE */

/* OpenXCom has been made good enough to be set from within the game. Use latest version and enjoy. This guide is no longer needed */
/* Gallery link and its content no longer exist */

I was playing with my graphics and I came up with something that looks cool to me. so I share a "how to" for those that might be interested.
Preview: gallery (make sure to view images in full size)
Game version: openxcom_git_master_2014_03_13_1348.zip - built 2014-03-13 12:53
My screen: 23'' LCD 1920x1080 monitor
My OS: Windows

You need to edit options.cfg file in one of the following locations (depending on your OS): user folder
useScaleFilter: false
useOpenGLSmoothing: true
useOpenGLShader: Shaders/SABR.OpenGL.shader
useOpenGL: true
useHQXFilter: false
fullscreen: true
displayWidth: 1920
displayHeight: 1080
baseYResolution: 405
baseXResolution: 720

Adding antialiasing to transparent textures from GPU driver has blurring effect and consumes huge amount of processing power so make sure it is off.

Attached is a save file and a screenshot for comparing results to mine. center the image on TARGET 1 and use F12 for screenshot (ss is saved where the options.cfg file is)

For those that do not use native 1080p(FullHD) resolution:
The trick is to edit the file with your native resolution and use baseresolution scaling until things start to look too small for comfort. also baseresolution must be scaled with the right aspect ratio of your screen (16:10, 16:9, 4:5... whatever it is. x/y) so that you use all of your screen space(no black borders). Ask for help if needed. I will gladly try to help.

For those that does not use LCD monitor, have deteriorated eyesight, have an old hardware, have different preference or endless other reasons to disagree... well... have it your way and please do not post your preferences irrelative to the subject of this guide. makes me angry :) I have previews. Look at them. If you don't like them or they cannot* work for you, move along.

edit1: added some clarifications for the general public and removed obsolete personal thoughts
edit2: added notice that the content is no longer useful and a link is dead
