Work In Progress / Custom Music from XCOM 2
« on: August 27, 2020, 05:14:57 am »
Not really a mod, but I guess it could be packaged up as one. If you have XCOM 2 installed, chances are that you have the original soundtrack as well. For what it may be worth, I tested out some of the XCOM 2 music in openxcom -- here are the files that I found to be a good match:

Original FilenameXCOM 2 Title
GMDEFENDAdvent Coalition
GMENBASELast Hope
GMGEO1Out of the Ashes
GMGEO2Welcome to the Lab
GMGEO3Implants
GMGEO4Alien Fortress
GMINTERAvenger Attacked
GMINTRO1New World Order
GMINTRO2n/a (too short for most of the music)
GMINTRO3First Flight (this one works very well here!)
GMLOSEGame Over
GMMARSAmbush
GMNEWMARCommander Awakens
GMSTORYLazarus
GMTACTICInfiltrator
GMTACTIC2Break the Line
GMWINVictory

Disclaimer: I haven't gotten to all the sounds in the game yet, so it's possible that the endgame stuff doesn't work as well as I think it should. But for the normal stuff, so far it sounds pretty good.

I'm definitely not opposed to abusing the save/load feature to get the hang of how a specific situation will play out. (Like when my four first people out the door were obliterated by reaction fire through a smoke cloud.... grrrrr!) Slowly getting the hang of things.

Thanks, everyone this is very helpful.

@humbe, your guide is excellent!

One final question: is there an in-game way to determine LOS and cover? Or is it just trial and error and experience?

Open Feedback / Extreme Noobie Questions

Hi all --

I've got some time in grade with the reboot XCOM 2, but I'd like to go back to the beginning and experience the series. A couple questions for the community:

1) I've got UFO: Enemy Unknown and X-COM: Terror From the Deep (via GOG), but how do I enable TFtD with OpenXCom? When I start it up, it defaults to Enemy Unknown.

2) Is there a "getting started" guide anywhere that doesn't assume I'm familiar with the original and have no idea what I'm doing? Most of the ones I've found via Google are very short/abbreviated and assume some sort of experience. I've watched some games on YouTube/Twitch, but since there really isn't a "tutorial" like with the rebooted series, I'm not sure how I should be spending my time when I start a new game. Assume I'm a total idiot -- what should I do first?   8)

Thanks!
