Tonks are cute tanks.

(They're cute because they're yours, although for military purists among us, the player tanks are actually  more akin to tank destroyers due to fixed turret.)

Anyway, metagaming right now involves knowing event, optimal research paths, sources of rng item blocks and how to avoid it...none of this is necessary, but can help a lot knowing where you're headed and what you are missing.

I have helped some people with savegames. In the end, many, many issues people have is by being strategically passive. Saving money instead of reinvesting it, not hiring brainers, not building more bases and radars, not shooting down targets, not researching new missions, not attempting easy lucrative missions but charging headlong into pointless difficult ones with questionable rewards.

I can't promise wonders, but I've often been handed 'hopeless' games which only nedded nudging towards the right track to flow again.

I am on discord, and if anyone wants some help, find me there, hand me a save file, and we can fix it.

It's a bit vague. We don't know what you did wrong, but I assume the lack of tonks did you in.

If you want a super detailed play-by play, join Discord, and ask Grub since he does those missions for fun.

If you don't want to do them, don't do them and eat the infamy cost. It is obviously possible to survive on points via research, but this seems like a structural problem with your game, since in Oct you should be able to reach many infamy points over 10k.

Allow research dummy research (just for research points). (PS: I last played the game maybe half a year ago)

In some of my games, after researching all available researches (example unable to proceed with research until I obtain some items that open up other research path), I lost the games due to 2 consecutive months of negative scores. When I have no more available research,  I will try to score more in combat to make up for it. But usually after a few months, most of my main squads are injured and resting and thus I will lose the game as it can't continue on for long without research point to help counter the increased enemy activities score

I admit, this made me curious. Just shooting down everything should reduce their points, while allowing a lot of lucrative grpund missions.

I have no idea how you can both run out of research and not be able to shoot enough down or indeed, bledd out crew and not being able to replace them.

How many bases? What month were you on?

When I've said "experienced players" I meant players experienced by general gaming (not only computer games). In my opinion those players have tendency to lessening time pressure by any means (but still in the game's world) when they feel that they must obtain more understanding, just to have more fun, without chasing technical stuff buried somewhere outside in the author's secret garden.

This is true, and Xpiratez subverts this expected trope quite heavily in the sense that lollygagging and avoiding progress hurts only yourself, it has a limited impact on world escalation. Moreover, advancing and opening up new oportunities DOES NOT close up old oportunities.

This problem is very reocurring, and we're having discussions constantly on how to make the player forget other gaming tropes.

Until M1, I did not feel the time pressure at all. In fact, it would be quite easy to lollygag until close to Year 3 on any difficulty not Jack Sparrow.

Since M1, things changed a lot. Now it is way more difficult to lollygag, and there is only one way of dealing with the pressure, getting a goal and sticking to it. Unfortunately, for people not in the know what is, or is not a goal, they might suffer from unfocused playstyle that will ultimately grind their campaign to a halt no later than 9 months in.

That said, experienced players tend to know this stuff. And in any case, avoiding !stuff! Is basically the WORST thing you can do, so much so I'd consider it a newbie trap, not an experienced player rigid time control method or whatever.

That sounds like a reallly convoluted way to avoid using the dedicated debug commands.

There is a bug.

Apparently, you have to edit your rul file and modify the relevant passage with this.

  - type: monsterHuntPrimalFinale
    missionWeights:
      0:
        STR_LOC_MONSTER_HUNT_PRIMAL_FINALE: 100
    regionWeights:
      0:
        REGION_MONSTER_HUNT_PRIMAL_FINALE: 100

Else the last leg of the missions will never appear.

Well, then it's not a question of "you MUST kill the field guns" but rather "I kill the field gun because it's more expedient".

That is, of course, quite a difference.

That said, reducing fortification with a tank gun sounds like pain indeed. But a gal with a vibroaxe can free such a tank in half a turn.
