Title: Let's Play Is LIVE!

Okay, so I started my Let's Play, and have uploaded the first episode to YouTube. Please feel free to comment on my lack of ability, or any requests you may have; or even suggestions on how I might survive long enough to get to the end of the game.

Either subscribe to me, or check back here for episodes.

If the videos don't play, they might still be being processed by YouTube; leave them for half an hour and try again. If you still have problems, let me know

Makes sense. I've just recorded Episode 2 (two-parter), but I'll add a bit of detail in Episode 3.

hmmm... yeah, you should talk a bit about the interface improvements, like changing levels with the mouse wheel and the like.

to help with your mis-clicks, maybe you should turn on the path preview? it always helps me, and it also looks cool :)

also, I think that one time where your soldier wouldn't go where you wanted him to go on the first floor of the building? I think it was because there was a soldier occupying that tile on the ground floor. I believe that's still an issue :) preventing soldiers from stepping onto each other's heads also prevents them from moving over each other, even though there's a ceiling between them... :)

some features to mention:

hold RMB in the battlescape to scroll.

you can use RMB to max things out in lists (ie buying/selling)

you can use RMB to open doors

you can enable/disable weapons during interceptions

left handedness and dual-wielding with pistols is properly represented

we have 12 different languages

soldiers save their loadouts between missions (you don't have to set everyone up each time)

the scroll wheel is integrated into the UI

Hehe, great, I hope you got the ball rolling and a lot of openxcom let's plays will follow. I also like how warboy in your game is actually a girl  ;D

Oh, and for the mis-clicks, you can enabled the path preview option?

This is looking great. Grats to all the devs, fantastic.

For my "Jan 1st, 1999" game, I had not decided which game to use, but OpenXcom has so many killer GUI enhancements now that this is the way to go. I just hope I can stay one step ahead of Warboy's "Destroyer of saves" during my game   ;D

I can't wait for personal armour too! I've started researching the alien materials for exactly this purpose.

I did something like this in another forum a long time ago. I had, and still have no idea how to stream or record something so I just wrote mission reports with images, lots of images. I set up a recruitment thing, different soldier classes depending on stats requirements, wrote research reports and some other writings to add more flavor. I also made the community participate by allowing them to vote in different matters like research and manufacturing projects, allowing them to transfer from one team to another and things like that.

The community really liked it and they were really active. They even started to roleplay in the thread and making custom sigs and avatars. Good times.

Chiko, yeah, the LP for Apoc by GuavaMoment was written with screenshots. Very funny stuff because he made it more of story than a game too

I've got a really bad cough that's developed over the last couple of days, so I'm not sure if I'll record any today I'm afraid. I think I'll probably wait until I can talk properly down the mic

Yeah I used to do this sort of thing in forums (https://www.xcomufo.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=3795) too when I had more disposable time :P it was fun.

Good luck with your LP pmprog, looking forward to see how often I get killed. What's up with the spacing around the game though?

OBS refuses to record OpenXCOM if I place it fullscreen - it only seems to capture part of the cursor, the rest of the screen is black. So I have to  record it Windowed. I suppose I should just configure OBS better, and I'll try and get around to that. It's all still a bit new, so I'm still learning about modifying the layouts and adding scenes etc.

Yeah, I was not a good writer at that time but my reports were still fun to read for most. The bad thing about it is time consumption and effort... I could with 1 playthrough and a half. You need some will to keep it working. And I'm lazy. xD

the last few additions will only break battlescape saves. don't update until you get to the geoscape and save, should be fine.

Yeah, we already spoke about that on IRC. It's going to be a few days before I do any more recording, my cough has developed into a high temperature and today isn't going anywhere :(

Thanks. It's my first LP, and first time properly through OpenXCOM. I have played the original before, and seemed to do better at that ;)

I would really recommend spending the 420K right from the start and get a tank. Use it to explore and sniff out the aliens, then you can better plan where to send your soldiers. The tank can take quite a beating if an alien decides to react and fire while it moves.

I used to die OFTEN and a LOT until I restarted a new campaign and got me a tank! Oh, I still die quite often, but much less than before!

I hope everyone can see that the game plays really well now, with some very worthwhile GUI upgrades and lots more on the way.

Strategery-wise, I tend to go straight for laser rifle rather than armor, because 1) you pretty much need lasers to tackle cyberdisks, 2) laser pistols give you something quickly that is cheap and useful to manufacture, 3) armor takes quite a long time to manufacture per unit until you have lots of engineers, 4) armor works best with the Medikit which you also have to research and build and 5) armor requires resources which you just may run out of in the early game.

This is a very good feature request. You should always be able to bring up a summary page of soldiers in the battle that includes their health/wounds and whatever else can comfortably fit on one screen, maybe weapon equipped.

Very agreed. Mission summary  screen really lack of detailed info on whom you've captured as live alien, and which of xcoms has died and which are MIA. They are not some alien alloys or unnamed alien corpses...

pmprog, I've added a new setting in options.cfg in the latest build that might help you (assuming it's compatible with your save), if you set "battleNotifyDeath: true" you'll get messages informing you who died so you don't lose track. :)

Sounds good; though everyone should expect to be dead. I'm quite surprised with the council's (real) result for the first month, I don't see it lasting though

It might be because there was a funding bug that's been fixed these last few days (if you look at the Git Builds, me and Warboy have been quite busy recently :P).

Also lol at the Covert Action reference, great game. :D

Sure you can. I've not had chance to play it for a while, but yeah, there've been a lot of dead bodies of the wrong kind lately.

another nice idea I've seen on X-Com playthroughs is to have a clone army: whenever one of the original crew dies, he gets replaced by a new recruit of the same name, with a number added to denominate the deaths. so after a few months, you would have a crew of for example "Corporal SupSuper 5", "Major Daiky 3" and "Rookie Moriarty 53" :)

I want also to be recruited as a rookie!!!  :-[ :-[ Oh!, this is my first post in this community, but I have been following it since the early days, when the battlescapewas no yet implemented. If you hire me as a rookie I assure you I am very motivated  ;D ;D ;D, but please in middle august give me some holidays :)

I think that is the understatement of the year :)

You mean they are incredibly lucky if they finish the mission!!!

My character (once is added to the roster) wil try to stay away from the rest of the squad at all cost!! :D

lol, you're currently 5th in the queue, the latest episode I recruit 3 more, so you won't be far away. I'll try and remember to run you in the other direction - alone - with no weapons or armour :)

In the dual battle where I lost both interceptors, one of them was destroyed from one hit. Anyway, I'm nearly at Laser Cannons, so we should be able to hold our own a little better next time

Laser Cannons? I usually don't bother researching them at all :) range is too limited. All they are good for is shooting down Small Scouts without destroying them. Which is a sport in itself, one I usually enjoy once I've gained air superiority - I tend to keep a dedicated interceptor for that purpose :D

correct the laser cannons are great for small even medium ships, against a battleship you will be sending more money down the drain using laser cannons, I stay with the Avalanche for a long while usually until i get plasma, i only use other when i am taking on smaller ships

And yes Micah was doing well i meant from the previous video. This one well not so well :D

By the way what program do you use to record, i wan to start my own session, i just started a new game with the latest GIT

It's Windows only (I didn't realise that at first). It'll let you stream to Twitch etc. too, which is nice, I just don't stream live all that often.
