Hi, I have a few alien weapons that are of the proximity type. In the missions, I seen alien using grenades, but are there mechanics in place that the aliens uses them?
-
No.
-
Pity, it would be nice if they could bobbytrap bottleneck area in the mission like doors. It add flavours to the game.
-
And a lot of frustrated players ;)
-
Not really, if such feature exist.. they made player understand insurgent warfare.
-
Not at all, is just extra busywork for player since all proxies are visible on mini map, and are removable by explosions, or flyers. Aliens however will blow themself up all the time.
-
AFAIK items can be made invisible on the minimap.

Items can also be obstructed by objects, walls, etc.
Especially tiny grenades are impossible to spot when covered by terrain or structures.
Would you expect the player to grenade-clear the path he wants to go through, just in case there is an invisible proxy there?
Or use some sort of metal detector before every single step?

I had similar thoughts.
I actually used this feature only once, to make burrowing creatures who can suddenly appear if disturbed by a person walking nearby. Also, it's a one time mission. It works well as such, but having something like this on a regular basis, and with normal explosives, doesn't sound like fun.

it is what make an xcom mission interesting. You can't have it your way blasting things apart with superior soldiers all the time. Just like any insurgency, the aliens may dig in and wait for you to come. Sometimes you have to get in dirty to win. Pity, could have been interesting.. rooting out alien booby traps and etc.
It is like Vietnam, XCom vs the VietCong....
-
No.
Will the aliens simply not throw them at all?
Or will they prime it and throw it on the X-Com soldiers position like a grenade when they see them?
If the second case is true alien proximity grenades could still be interesting to use, albeit not for their original intended purpose.

No means no.

When Meridian says no, its like god has spoken in the OXCE sense.
He knows the game engine mechanics.. ;)

Well... that changes my plans a bit.
Thank you for the info. ^_^
