Title: Re: Meridian's new LP plans
Post by: a0kribu on March 25, 2019, 05:41:58 pm
I guess it inspires others when more people post here... so I'll mention as well that I donated about 2 weeks ago.

@meridian
As this is obviously the best place to ask this: It's been like four(?) years since you started your last LP on YT is there some chance to have a new one at some point in the future? :)

@gsdioxine
Out of curiosity, how big of a % of donators also come to this thread to say they donated?

Yeah, it's actually quite likely.
After TWoTS LP is finished, I have no more ideas what mods to play... I would do w40k, but my knowledge about the w40k universe is zero and I don't want to look like an idiot. So I guess I'll start replaying all the mods again in some random order.

You won't look like an idiot - I knew little of it before I started working on the mod. But given your playstyle, I don't think you'd enjoy our balance decisions all that much.

How not too look like an idiot about 40k:

Medieval space bioengineered nazi superknights fight evil bastards because evil. Just call everything shout HERESY every 5 seconds or so.  8)
You can't look like an idiot doing that. Guaranteed.

Seriously, that is it.

I propose a much saner and less prejudiced approach: It is a poast-apocalyptic, grand scale sci-fi setting. Post-apocalyptic many times over, actually.

Also why we're discussing Meridian's future LP plans here...?

How about: Dumbed down bersion of Nemesis The Warlock. Note that Nemesis The Warlock isn’t exactly highbrow comic in the first place.

This intro is pretty good at evoking the setting, or at least its martial side:

This one also gives some insight about the world of 40K,in general the only confusing thing about 40k is the myriad of space marine chapter history and all the dozens of weaponry, other than that you could pick up on the rest while reading the lore normaly.

In a universe bound to an eternal "everyone against everyone" war, where everyone is evil (except the Old Ones, but they are long dead), prejudice is pretty strong.  ;D

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Everyone is evil? Clearly you know nothing about the lore.

EVIL: Necrons, Dark Eldar, Emperor, Cult Mechanicus, Black Legion and some other chaos followers

Just following their nature: Tyranids, Orks, Tau, Chaos gods and daemons

Just trying to survive and perhaps even thrive: Most of the Imperium of Man, most chaos followers, Crafworld Eldar

I wouldn't call the Necrons evil. They just want some peace and quiet to take a nap. Is that too much to ask?

Cult Mechanicus, the saviours of mankind, evil? I smell techno heresy!

Their greedy hoarding of critical technologies is directly harmful to mankind’s survival.

Everyone is evil? Clearly you know nothing about the lore.

Some time ago I had found a quote from one of the lore authors that said just that. I couldn't find it again unfortunately.

It was something in the line of: "People think that the Eldars are the good guys in edition x, but in reality they are scheming and turncoat race that puts it's own above all else. There are no "good guys" in 40K."

The Imperium went on a xenocidal crusade that was aimed at killing all non-humans in the galaxy. The lore is full of stories how they (especially the young primarchs) save the locals from evil xenos who enslaved them. If you dig deeper you could find some xeno races that were exterminated or nearly so for no reason. And last but not least, most of the lore is written from the point of view of the Imperium.

Every race is good in and for itself but wouldn't mind getting rid of everyone else.
The only exceptions that I know of are the long dead Old ones and the Tau to some extent.

In the end, the universe of 40K was created for a miniatures wargame centered on little plastic men and ... things that do battle with each other. You can roleplay any fight no matter what sides you pick. If you do a WWII Americans versus British, however, it will look pretty silly.

Don't get me wrong I do like 40K. I prefer the Fantasy Warhammer, but the 40K universe is also pretty awesome.

I think the point is not to say that everyone is evil, only that everyone does horrible stuff - but mostly because they have little choice. The most obvious example is the Exterminatus: "Some may question your right to destroy ten billion people. Those who understand know that you have no right to let them live."
Some factions, or more like some factions within all the factions, indeed are evil. Well, except for the Dark Eldars, who are all pretty fucked up.
And yeah, Warhammer Fantasy is way better. ;)

Even the dark eldar are victims of situation. They do what they do to keep slaneesh from eating them. Appease the nasty deity with sacrifice and spectacle, since they didn't have soul stone and arc systems. Then bake a culture of sacrifice for survival for a few thousand years. End result is pretty messed up but even then there is moral spectrum. One of the important figures in the Yneed group was a Wytch before she joined for example.
