Title: [WIP] X-Com: Nemesis
Post by: Wolfstarr on November 23, 2018, 12:44:39 am
X-Com: Nemesis

A new global agency setup to deal with the sudden increase in alien activity on Earth may have more than one enemy to contend with to ensure the survival of the human race.

So have been lurking in the background on the forum for a while now and really wanted to get back into the modding scene and finally took the plunge with OpenXcom Extended rather than sticking to vanilla.  I love all of the work others put in here and so wanted to contribute something myself :)

I've also spent a great deal of time ripping sprites from other places which is soooo time consuming.

First up in the mod is the Apex ...  This race is inspired by the predator films and spawns another unit upon death of the cloaked one.  The cloaked sprite is one kindly borrowed from X-Com Files with the main sprite being an amalgamation of the mutons from Xeno Operations.  I created the death animation of the unit cloaking myself.

A video is posted below for those who want to see it in action.  Excuse the audio in the background ... I am a noob with OBS!

I've also got a really nice spider sprite (ripped from a Harry Potter GBA game) but it has 11 frames of animation and struggling to get it to animate correctly in game ... any helpers willing to take up the challenge?

Cheers,

SQ

Changelog:
Version 0.0.1
  - Nighthawk HWP added (50%)
  - SWARMM race added (0%)

That's a really nice enemy! I loved the "decloak" animation.

Looking forward for future updates!

A really sexy idea! Perfect execution, too.
But please give it a unique floorsprite... This on is way too obviously a Chryssalid. A standard black Muton would be better.

And if you're asking about sprites, you should present it. :)

Thanks both for the feedback :)

I'm going to start posting my sprite rips for all to benefit on here - https://openxcom.org/forum/index.php/topic,6719.0.html

The spider is there as number 1 :)

Great idea. I tjink that potential of units spawned after death is sitill underestimated.

Thanks for comments all :)

Next up is a another slightly conceptual test ... the Phalken Combat Droid.

The sprite is ripped from the SNES game Metal Marines (posted here before but re-ripped by myself) and another from Xeno Operations (I think), I used the soldier routine to put the entire sprite in the legs animations only so that when the unit goes into flying mode it totally transforms into a jet! How I wish I could use the transformers sound effect here :) Only thing I haven't figured out yet is to change the sound when flying to a jet one as still sounds like a robot servo.  Tried using the vars.rul and can't seem to make it work :S Any tips.

Here it is in action ...

P.S. You may recognise the enemy as the Xenovore ... I commissioned a sprite artist a while back to convert the chrysallid sprite into one inspired by the xenomorph using the old conceptual images as a form of reference.  The sprite sheet for the Xenovore is referenced here - https://openxcom.org/forum/index.php/topic,5539.msg84521.html#msg84521.

Not much to update on at the moment as have been indulging myself in classic doom mods :)

Anyways saw how cool the revenant was and knocked up this.  Not overly convinced on the skull look but wanted to share for views and opinions :)

Thanks for feedback :)

I'm actively working on one faction at a time now rather than my historical scattergun approach ... would like to actually release something at some point!

Luke, I watched your historical videos on map making as are a very good resource ... that is on my todo list to put some maps together :)

Hello All,

Am back (old UN was SideQuests) lurking from the shadows :) lost all of my work on OXC a while back and with personal stuff, etc haven't had the time to pick anything OXC related back up and see if have any backups.

Glad that a lot has been going on since I left with other people's mods and OXCE.

Not got anything to post yet, going to start off small and then work way up to plans by finishing one part of the mod at a time.

If I find any of my original files people have messaged me about I'll post them but not looking hopeful at the moment :(

I know that feel, bro. I lost twice the progress on my mod UNEXCOM, but I didn't give up and did what I lost again, even better.

I hope you can start over. And I look forward to more content for you!

P.S. Is this your new username? I use the heat-ray projectile you made for a Tripod in my mod set in the War of the Worlds and I want to credit you correctly. :)
