Title: Sharing Is Caring (Contributions)
Post by: SuperCaffeineDude on October 21, 2018, 08:41:06 pm
Hi let me start a mini contribution thread to the 40k mod, others feel free to add to it

Here's some bits, as I've said on other threads I'm pretty fickle, so here's some bits I've done for T'au and the Imp, which I may add to at a later date, feel free to make use of them or not
(https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JB4SmIO4FyE/W8yzow4WklI/AAAAAAAAD2E/JQDjTZnFlXkV_Cjd-09SjqinZVJHKEliQCLcBGAs/s1600/Tau_SharingIsCaring2.png)
(https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-aNO9gUlVzuU/W8yzYSD0JuI/AAAAAAAAD18/YQbUyJh1HrY9D7nXskVJagxZ136YvqwFgCLcBGAs/s1600/Tau_SharingIsCaring.png)(https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JnfizdzFPAk/W8y0S-2dMuI/AAAAAAAAD2M/hp1YXmlgZi8U7uwHd-1-Ce_CCrrMDdi4gCLcBGAs/s1600/Bits_SharingIsCaring.png)

A lot of fan-art has quite errotic T'au females with breasts, I've always found that a bit bizarre that female aliens would host distinctly human-like female features, I think I've read that they are from a dry planet, but they're also obviously based on Japanese culture, so I've tried to give them that look.
This was made for civilians but I'm hoping I (or someone else) will use these for Pathfinder and Fire-Warrior armors

I also have set aside a Laptop with External Servo-Core (AI is heresy) a data-slate (floppy-disk) and data-reader (kindle), a primitive demo-charge, amosec(??), and a holy aquila staff

As I said feel free to use or add to this thread, cheers!

Edit 3: More inventory dolls  +  melee stuff.. just a think tank, throwable spears and melee?... maybe not doable in oxc.

So the fifth male doll... what it should be like ... lets take a vote maybe? basically rest of the 5 wemmins will be the opposite sprites of these dolls. (eg. mutant male will be a fugly mutant hag and so on) .... so ideas for for dolls are.

1. OH GOD IM GONNA DIE, PLS SAVE ME EMPEROR doll ... (basically a sprite doll in on its knees laying in ground, making "platoon" movie pose, hands raised to heavens and praising for forgiveness) (weakling type)
2.  Ork imposter ega Digganob doll ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y29aGTbg62A ) (weakling subhuman, painted in green)
3.  Psyker doll (pff)
4.  furry. (well... look at some of it in wiki).
5. Your choise?

oh gawd... more i look into this lore, it get complicated.. i mean by kamikaze units @ old rogue trader.

not bad, but how do you make it as battlesprite? :D ... edit: maybe i could use sectoid as a base and draw to that... prolly would look hilarious when its holding a gun, whole upper torso filled with weapon sprite :3 ....

Any-hoo, small update again in doll spirtes. Maybe ill make a female version too and stop making those arbi..*cough*.. Also added the "motivational batong"

edit: 2 .... additional doll uprages and a guy "oh  my emperor i lost my library card and now im senteced to penal legiion oh gawd!" guy.

+ ratlings in progress too... maybe someday as a hired guys.

Hello gentlemen, I`d like to contribute too even my skills are not even nearly as good as yours.

Can you please advise on the format/dimensions/color etc constraints that the game can use? Although I`m not as good with graphics, but I can still cut, combine and recolor existing pictures.

At the moment these are the projects that I have in mind to do:
- Master Crafted Heavy Bolter (If it is needed at all)
- Terminator Apothecary Armor
- Terminator Librarian Armor
- Tanith First and Only`s Chameleonile cloak as an armor
- Word Bearer Dark Apostle
- Word Bearer Possessed

Hi Lord Flasheart, glad to hear you want to contribute! The biggest thing for formatting the images is going to be using the palettes that are required by the game engine. Next is that we try to use all PNG files for images since those cause the least issue with compatibility between operating systems. Each art asset has to be indexed 256 colors, with one of the following palettes based on where it is used in the game:
You can download the palettes as PAL files for photoshop and many other programs here (https://openxcom.org/forum/index.php/topic,1557.msg14258.html#msg14258), as GPL format for using GIMP (my preferred image editor) here (https://openxcom.org/forum/index.php/topic,1557.msg91409.html#msg91409), or as JASC format from the common/Palettes folder from your OXCE installation.

The image size also depends on what type of thing you're drawing. For the things on your list, you'd have:

The easiest method to start out would be to pick a base image from the mod to change, as it already has the proper size, shape, and palette, then change it a little in your editor and see if it works in-game. For example, take the Terminator Armor inventory image, save the unaltered version somewhere as a backup, copy some Apothecary bits onto it, export over the original file, then check in-game how it looks. If you have trouble with some of the specifics of the formatting, feel free to contact me and we can work it out.

As for the usefulness of the MC heavy bolter, I feel that it might disrupt the balance of the higher-power AP weapons, as with MC bolts it might overshadow the Assault Cannon, a Terminator-level weapon, or the IG's autocannons, which should be their best long-range AP weapon.

Hi bulletdesigner, can you post your tau files? I would give it a try. I have some ideas regarding the tau firewarrior unitsprites.

In the meantime I restarted the camo cloak from scratch and started working on the Tanith pattern lasgun based on the original artwork (idk who made them, maybe one of the Kopinskis?) - got it, it was Adrian Smith.

I have a question regarding the positioning of the "Bigob" picture, it is off on the game screen and on the inventory screen. How can I fix that?

Have you tried resizing and/or moving the rifle in the image?

You have the weapon set as 3x1 size in the inventory, but in order for that trick to work it needs to be 3x2.

This is a set of 4 weapons, 3 of which are combi weapons, and one of which is an offspring. All of these weapons appear on the same loot table as the other special boltguns, meaning that the more missions you run, the more likely you are to collect them. The combi weapons use standard ammo for their "primary" (read: most visibly dominant) weapon, and pistol-sized ammo for their "attachments" (to reduce capacity, and not power). The bolt-firing mechanism on every weapon is considered the base weapon, so even though the combi-melta's "primary" weapon is the meltagun, it will react-fire with the boltpistol attachment. I made the hand flamer partially due to my desire to sword-and-flamer, and partially due to the need for a pistol-sized flamer ammo for the combi-flamer. All combi-weapons use the same script the other boltguns use in order to re-color the magazines.

Combi-Flamer: Performs identically to a boltgun, with the addition of an attached flamer. The flamer performs the same as a normal flamer, except it takes a new "small fuel" item as ammunition. This limits it to 3 uses.
Combi-Plasma: It's a boltgun but with a plasma attachment. The plasma attachment performs identically to a plasma gun snap shot. It uses plasma pistol charges as ammunition, limiting it to 6 single shots, but keeping the same power as a plasma gun.
Combi-Melta: Unlike the other weapons, this is a combination of a melta gun and a boltpistol. It performs identically to both a melta gun and a bolt pistol, although it is a two-handed weapon.
Hand Flamer: Sororitas, rejoice! A lighter, one-handed version of the flamer. It fires faster and in smaller bursts. Hand flamer fuel is identical to standard flamer fuel, although it comes in a smaller capacity. It shares fuel with the combi-flamer. This is the only weapon that doesn't appear as random loot, and is instead purchasable.

KNOWN ISSUES:
- I don't know if I can set an individual max range for the combi-flamer attachment, so it can technically target across the map. It is a flamer, so that's a big technically.
- I didn't make custom images for the UFOPedia - the combi-weapons appear as boltguns, and the hand flamer appears as a flamer.
- I wasn't sure how to modify the loot table without overwriting the terrain file, so I didn't package it as a mod.
- I am not a talented artist

Update - I've re-attached the file with some improved graphics (bigobs and handobs). It's most noticable on the combi-flamer.

Awesome, thanks! ;D

Here's a pack of 3 Terminator weapons, each one locked to a specific Astartes doctrine. I didn't add one for Scout doctrine. (I also went back and updated the combi-weapon file with better art)
Terminator Grenade Launcher: Based on the old sergeant Powerfist-mounted grenade launchers, this weapon can fit a loader of either 10 frag grenades or 10 krak grenades. It MUST be loaded before battles (or during the loadout phase of a multi-stage battle). Also functions as a Powerfist. This weapon gives players who chose Devastator doctrine some heavy-weapons flexibility outside of the non-exclusive Cyclone Launcher. It is a direct-fire weapon to allow it to be used easily in base/space hulk corridors. Exclusive to Devastator doctrine.
Master-crafted Storm Bolter: This weapon type is bound to end up on every Terminator who serves a purpose outside of being a walking Assault Cannon platform, and therefore is exclusive to Tactical doctrine.
Master-crafted Thunder Hammer: There is only one master-crafted melee weapon thus far, so I decided to make this weapon have 20% less tu usage, as opposed to having increased stats. I theorize that this would result in similar performance in a clean manner. I have a separate melee weapon pack I am testing that is using this method of master-crafted melee weapons. Exclusive to Assault doctrine.

Unlike my last post, this one actually loads as a separate mod. All weapons are researched and manufactured after acquiring the relevant technology (or Terminator armor, in the grenade launcher's case).

Update - fixed an error with bigobs
Update 2 - Actually should be fixed and now correctly references the assets from the parent module. I haven't edited rulesets in years and my knowledge is clearly outdated. I also replaced the grenade loaders to look more unique.

Oh yeah, use anything I've posted as you see fit. ;D I'm attaching some Sororitas weapons I made last year before I fell off the face of the Earth, in case you can find anything here you can make use of. I planned on sticking these in the """""melee pack""""" as items to be manufactured with some kind of currency, but I ended up too busy to do anything at the time, and Sisters of Battle are a real thing now. Anything labeled as "annointed" or "alt" was supposed to be a middle-ground between normal and master-crafted weapons, using a script to increase their damage to daemons by 50%. Annointed bolts are colored to fit the annointed bolter only. The included hospitaller skin is based on the older design. I made the assumption that the in-game Sister at the time was of the Order of Our Martyred Lady, so I went with red/white when I made these Godwyn-De'az boltguns.

Not much, just bored, maybe someone can run with the idea.

Hrud 2x2 Loxatl 1x1 Rak'Gol 2x2

They're often alluded to in 40k, the Hrud are a subterranean/stranger-things monsters that warp time, sometimes they flee when they sense incoming doom, Loxatl are prolific mercenaries of Chaos with shotgun rigs, Rak'Gol are a faction of Pirates like Dark-Eldar with Ork-ish tech.

Cool concepts, perhaps we'll finally have both types of Hrud to cause maximum confusion  :D
