Title: How to use nightly build on linux.
Post by: 5taras on July 16, 2018, 06:18:10 pm
Hello.
I am using linux.
I want to play terror from the deep.
I downloaded openxcom nightly build OpenXcom_20180710_49119b216_x86-64.AppImage
I run it and get No X-com installations found. Make sure you installed OpenXcom correctly.
Thank you.

I use ubuntu bionic x64. After I installed openxcom from ppa repository, the openxcom launcher could not find UFOINTRO folder. UFOINTRO folder is missing among Terror from the Deep installation files I extracted with WINE.

Hi 5taras, and welcome to the forums.  First off, you should not try and mix using the nightly from the AppImage and the one from the ppa repository - the repository uses the milestone 1.0 version, which is out of date and can't run TFTD.

Secondly, on first running the AppImage it doesn't detect any installations because it doesn't know where to search for the data - by default, it will create a folder at ~/.local/share/openxcom, and this is where you need to place a folder called "TFTD" containing all the files from the original game.  So, first you should purge the openxcom from the PPA from your system, then look for the ~/.local/share/openxcom folder, and make a TFTD folder there containing GEODATA, GEOGRAPH, MAPS, etc. - all the data from the original game.

Thanks. It worked. I would use WINE, but in WINE X-COM experienced frequent lags.

No reason to use wine if you have a native version available. :)
