Title: [DONE] [Suggestion] Random Operation Names
Post by: new_civilian on July 14, 2018, 05:19:02 pm
Just a thought: Would it be possible to get a random Operation name just like in XCom2012/XCom 2? You know like "Vigilant Eagle" or "Careful Butterfly" Displayed in the Briefing screen somewhere? It maybe could use the soldier.nam file structure, making it easier for you to copy lines of code  ;D

Atm it is possible to get a random name for your operation by adding an unused soldier type with the according names and hire/fire him/her before each op, but that's hardly an elegant solution...  :D

(talking of silly mods: I made a new soldier class called "Redshirt" with totally crappy stats and low cost, i use them to clear mines or open doors   ;)  )

something like this?

it replaces landing site-1, crash site-1, terror site-1, alien base-1, etc.

I imagine it would pick the two parts from different lists?

Yes.
But only two lists, not 3 like for bases.

Example:

Code: [Select]
operationNamesFirst:

  - Blinding
  - Bloody
  - Broken
  - Brutal
  - Burning
  - Cold
  - Crimson
  - Cryptic
  - Crystal
  - Dark
  - Defiant
  - Demon
  - Devil's
  - Driving
  - Dying
  - Empty
  - Enduring
  - Fading
  - Fallen
  - Final
  - First
  - Flying
  - Forgotten
  - Frozen
  - Glass
  - Hidden

  - Stone
  - Swift
  - Twisted
  - Unceasing
  - Vengeful
operationNamesLast:
  - Apollo
  - Bell
  - Blade
  - Breath
  - Calm
  - Crone
  - Crown
  - Daze
  - Dream
  - Druid
  - Empire
  - Engine
  - Fall
  - Father
  - Fear
  - Fog
  - Future
  - Grave
  - God
  - Hammer
  - Hawk
  - Hydra
  - Hymn
  - Jester
  - Justice
  - King
  - Line
  - Law
  - Moon
  - Mother
  - Mountain
  - Night
  - Palace
  - Paramour
  - Pipe
  - Priest
  - Prophet
  - Pyre
  - Rain
  - Ring
  - Savior
  - Scepter
  - Serpent
  - Shield
  - Shroud
  - Skull
  - Smoke
  - Stallion
  - Star
  - Stranger
  - Stroke
  - Summer
  - Sword
  - Tears
  - Thorn
  - Throne
  - Thunder
  - Vanguard
  - Vengeance
  - Whisper

PS: if you don't see operation names with some deployments (e.g. base defense, t'leth, etc.) it's because their briefings are configured to not show them... you can change that via alienDeployments ruleset if you want

I hope OXCE v5.6.4 gets released soon, I can't wait to try it on Android. I've been waiting for this since 2015, when I discovered OpenXcom.

Question: how I do enable the Operation names on the briefings of Base Defense, Alien Base, etc?

Do we have operation bumbling cat, stinking wind, absolute failure in the list? If not, me not use this feature. 8)

You can write your own list, mate. ;)

A good suggestion is "Operation Puny Human"
