Soon, it will be 4 years since 1.0 has been released. What's status of 2.0 ?
-
Rule #1 of Openxcom: you don't ask about 2.0 ;)
-
We could skip 2 and go directly to 3 or 4 :)
-
Hi,
MorphOS user can wait new port for sooooo long time ;D
-
What we need is a 1.1. And no, I'm not going to stop asking for it. There's a ton of nightlies that would be perfectly good for slapping the 1.1 label onto. It needs to happen so that people stop falling into the 1.0 newbie trap.

I'd humly agree. Maybe an "intermediate" milestone between 1.0 and more advanced nightlies. At least it may allow to run mods designed for 1.0 with the nightlies file structure (mod folder and so on) :)

I have played this game since 1994. I just reinstalled it from steam for my son, and it (of course) doesn’t look right and the sound is messed up. I found this and saw that it has a ton of things that make the game better. But I’m confused about which version I should get and how I install it. The installation videos are years old. And you guys mention a noob 1.0 trap. Can you give me some advice and explain what the trap is? I am really eager to play with all the upgrades (even just the ones in 1.0).

Just ignore 1.0 and get a nightly. It's much newer, self-contained, and there are no problems with it.
You can also try the OXCE+ branch, which is basically the same but with more options/quality of life improvements. You don't really need it for the standard game, though.
-
Thank you! I can’t wait to try it.

Without wishing to harm anyone,
in mine opinion,
in practice, version "2.0" is the Yankes / Meridian fork :-X
-
Not quite, we're at version 3.10 already :)
Soon reaching 4.0...

If my is 3.10, then our is 6.30 :>
I think is safe to say that difference between OXC and OXCE is comparable to difference between OXCE and OXCE+

I continue to see people playing 1.0 because they "downloaded it from the official site". We really need something like 1.1 to stop this madness. "Latest Milestone 1.0" on the site is really a trap.

Of course we do. :P
-
"Latest Milestone 1.0"
Someone should change the text to say "Earliest Milestone 1.0". It would be just as technically accurate, yet far less misleading.
-
I think we could do another simple solution, add word "old" to "Milestone" instead of "Latest", this will redirect most of people to nightly.
[ps]
And reduce font of "1.0" and increase font size of date.
[ps]
something like this:
<div class="timer">
Old Milestone<br>
<a href="https://openxcom.org/downloads-milestones/"><span class="nightly">1.0</span></a><br>
Latest Nightly<br>
<a href="https://openxcom.org/git-builds/"><span class="stable">2018-06-22
</span></a>
</div>
I dropped time from date because it not fit page.
-
Or adopt, and show, a progressive number versio eg. 2.1, 2.2 and show on the page, instead of both "old" and "lates"?
-
It has now been 0 days since 2.0 was last mentioned.
-
I'm here, just lurking.
-
Download link for 1.0 is gone and the milestones section is under construction.
Hmm...
-
It has finally happened! ;D
