Title: The X-Com Files now on Patreon!
Post by: Solarius Scorch on December 03, 2017, 01:25:35 pm
If you like this mod and want to see more features sooner, please support the development!

Here is my Patreon site. (https://www.patreon.com/user?u=2957095)

You can read all the details there, but I guess this part is the most important:

Quote
Modding games is my hobby and not something I do for money. But it is a very time-consuming hobby and often not that different from my actual job, especially when coding. So I'm creating this profile in hope of getting some healthy motivation from you guys. Every nice word, praise, constructive criticism and of course donation from players is invaluable and really helps make more and better content.

So that's it, basically. You all know what Patreon is for, and if you don't, just check out the link. ;) If you want and are able to contribute, any help will be greatly appreciated. Also feel free to cancel at any time.

Special thanks to Meridian for the advice regarding Patreon. (I am a n00b in the business.)

EDIT: The X-Com Files team is now bigger, as Finnik joined the modding effort with gusto. Here is his Patreon, please support him too as he does great job. You can do it here. (https://www.patreon.com/Finnik)

Wow, thanks!
I can't see the pledge yet, but I assume it'll appear soon.

I guess now I should get Diablo 1 from somewhere. ;)

Uhh, yeah, somewhere. Integrated with the game. Also, in Polish only.
We really should release it one day...

Hey @Solarius,

I haven't had so much fun as when playing the X-COM files in a looong time. I want to support you with a one time payment, but I also want to stay fair to all the contributors, and get some Patreon goodies ;)

My current thinking is to give you, Meridian (for OXCE) and SupSuper (for OpenXcom), 50 USD each, through these pages:

Solarius' patreon (https://www.patreon.com/user/posts?u=2957095)
Meridian's patreon (https://www.patreon.com/meridian)
OpenXcom donation page (https://openxcom.org/donate/)

My questions:
- am I omitting some major contributors?
- for example, I understand that OpenXcom is not only SupSuper (also e.g. Warboy) but I do hope that by donating through OpenXcom page they will share the donation fairly.
- what about other major contributors to OXCE and X-COM files besides you and Meridian?
- I saw in your Patreon you do a dossier for 10 USD and a mission for 25 USD. With my 50 USD, will I get those perks? ;) (I am super relaxed when it comes to creative direction)

Hello,

Thanks. I think you mentioned all the most involved parties, apologies if I'm forgetting someone. At least when it comes to donations - otherwise there are also important people like Ohartenstein, Volutar, Yankes and others.

I don't mind making another mission. Let me know by PM.

I discovered OpenXcom and X-Com Files nearly by accident about a month ago, and have been working my way through a Veteran play-through.  I'm absolutely blown away by the sheer volume of new content and, overall, its high quality.  This is miles better than the original game as well as all the sequels since.

Even got it set up to sync saves between my Android and PC, which is convenient (playing on mobile turned out to be more workable than expected, and this game sure beats 99% of the ad-laden, in-app-purchase-cursed titles in the Play store).

I miss some of the small "quality of life" features of Xenonauts (e.g. switching to the next soldier while the last one is still walking) but am still having a blast.

I sent a donation to openxcom.org/donate.  I'd like to also make a one-time to Solarius and Meridian, as I gather from above they've put a lot of work into this mod.  But I'm not on Patreon and don't want to sign up for it.  Do they already have any other donation links?  (@SupSuper I sent you an email maybe you can help me get in touch with them).

In any case I want to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who made this mod happen.
