Title: The Endless war, A total conversion for Openxcom.
Post by: alinare on April 05, 2017, 08:39:58 pm
Hello everyone:
During these years, since 2015, to be exact, I have followed the projects and the wonders of this page. I remained and remained, literally fascinated, by the works of great geniuses, like Dioxine, Solarius Scorch, and some more. I have felt, I think, that he is envious of his creations, so, I, I proposed to do something, that was a tribute to his work, and one of the best strategy games, in my opinion, of all time, xcom Enemy unknown. The endless war, is a total conversion, of the game, or rather, I would say, a reimagination. The mod follows a similar line of argument, that of the original, although the war against the aliens has lengthened too much. Many innocent people are dead, and the war is going on too long. XCOM has had several commanders, who have not known, or have not been able to achieve a victory over the invader. The game starts with the arrival of a new commander, who must turn the tables. Otherwise, you will be forced to resign, losing the game. I'm not going to reveal much more, because I prefer the player to discover it for himself. First of all, point out some things:
- Aircraft, weapons, and aircraft statistics may not be correct or overdone. I am not an expert on these issues.
- I have taken sprites and materials from other mods, such as UFOs, maps or weapons, since I am not good at performing them. I tried to create maps, but I did not get any acceptable results. Anyone who has seen my mod, of the Mongorn race, will know what I am talking about. Opportunism? No, at least it was not my intention, but if someone feels offended, I will apologize, and I will withdraw the mod, if necessary. I do not think I would have been able to adequately reflect the complexity and magnificence of the great ships of the enemy.
- This mod, is influenced and inspired by Piratez of Dioxine. Since I played with this mod wonder, I told myself I had to create something, even if the result was mixed and uncertain.
- I started working on the Endless War, on September 15, 2015. Every day I add something new. For now, the mod is playable and should be able to reach the end. I say should, because I have not tried yet. Working on the mod is absorbent, so I am more time expanding it than trying it.
- All the unpublished material I have included, can be freely used in other mods, so for me, at least. The structure of the mod is in folders, because that way I work better, and it facilitates me a lot, the search for a certain material. There are so many because I have not stopped working on it ever since.
"There are references to Piratez, and to other myths of popular culture.
- Each mod has been individually tested and compatible with each other. Everything should work smoothly. As far as I've tested it, there are none.
- There is material belonging to Piratez, and other mods that have not had continuity, like Xeno Operations, The war of the shadows. I insist that if someone believes that I violate something, I will withdraw the mod, and I will apologize publicly. My intention was not to plagiarize or take advantage of the work of the authors. Only add elements, which I found remarkable and that my imperfection, I do not allow me to create them. There are references to other games in the xcom series.
My level of English is not very fluid, let's say. In fact, I am Spanish-speaking. Why in English, then? I believe that this way I can reach more people, said with all humility and modesty. I have taken care of the texts and the grammar, as far as my knowledge of this language has allowed me.
I plan, if The endless war is welcomed, make updates and continue to expand. I am open to suggestions.
If someone recognizes your work in my mod, I will quote you without problems, to recognize the authorship of your material.
This mod is created by pure hobby and fun pursuit. In fact, I spend it better, expanding and adding new things, than playing it.
I do not put photos. I prefer you to discover the ins and outs of The Endless War, on your own.
If it looks like a penny or too boring and complicated, tell me. I can fit the criticisms and accept them. Really.
Do not deactivate any mod, as this could create gaps in the game. Leave it by default, as it is. To a greater or lesser extent, all mods are related to each other. Logically, everyone, is free to do what he prefers.
Research and the technological tree are complicated and convoluted. I wanted from the first moment, that the Endless war was as complex and challenging as possible.
If someone analyzes the structure of the Endless War, you may find it chaotic. In fact, at first, I had a hard time understanding and deciphering the mechanics of creating mods. I give sincere thanks to Meridian for his infinite patience with me, by disturbing him with so many doubts. Also to Dioxine, to include the armored car, in its mod. And to Solarius, to use the Mongorn in the X-Files.
- Sometimes, when a soldier, or civilian, dies the sound of a saw. I still have not managed to solve it. I included an entry in the Ufopedia to hide it a little. The characters can get to shout, on some maps. It is not intentional.
I do not think he left me anything. The Endless War is dedicated to Dioxine, Meridian and all of you. Enjoy it.

I for one say that you can use every resource and piece of lore from Piratez freely. I did exactly the same with games and mods which came before me, so I can only freely offer everything back. I am eager to to check out your mysterious mod. I won't judge it, though, I'm not that very fervent player - not as much as I would like to.

EDIT: You forgot to add your TERRAIN, MAPS and ROUTES databases (in your case, into /common directory) causing most missions to crash on load. There are also errors in pedia for some aircraft and aircraft weapons (resources missing or misplaced), causing them to crash.

I haven't played it yet, but the amassed resources are mind-blowing...

Actually I already stole one to be used in some of my project: the Scorpoid. I improved it a little and added a (poorly made) bigob, see attached. :)

EDIT: And inventory/ufopaedia!

Hello:

I'm going to upload a new version, with much more content. I have solved most of the errors and the mod seems to be fine. From here to tomorrow will be.

--- posts merged ---

Hello:
I just uploaded a new version of the Endless War. I have included new enemies, investigations and corrected errors. I do not put a change ratio, because it would be too long. Who prefers to see all the changes, can do it in the generator of battles, entering the Ufopaedia. I keep making changes and looking for errors. Very soon there will be another version.
Greetings to all.

Now in english  ;D

Hello, alinare!
It is a great pleasure to find works as dedicated as this, especially if it is Spanish speaking people. I can't wait to try your mod, It looks like you put all of your dedication to make it.
I hope it includes lots and lots of aircrafts and weapons for aerial combat, it's my favorite parts of the game. More aircraft and more missiles it's better!
Keep up the good work!

I downloaded it and there are still a few issues.  Several UFOpedia entries still crash.  I got crashes like the following when viewing aircraft weapons.  I first got it when I hit the naval gun entry, and after a few restarts it seems pretty common in the following entries.  During this I noticed that you forgot to delete some of your saves.  Also a few typos I quickly noticed: there are a few spots where you use the word 'game' when I assume you meant 'plane' and you also go back and forth between spelling 'recent' correctly and incorrectly in the lore entry titles (examples included) .

Hello:
I have uploaded a new version. Now I should go with no problems. And apologies for the inconvenience.  :D The savegames are tests I have done previously, and may not work because there have been many changes. I should have taken them away, no doubt.

Thanks for the fix.  I'm interested to see what's in here.  By the way, it seems you forgot to remove the UFO folder assets when you uploaded.  There's also a second OXCE+ application included.

Hello! Alinare, I would like to know why your mod requires a lot of exe and many root folders? Why not, say, make a simple ruleset and organize the folder if the resources? Don't take this as a suggestion, just a question.

Anyway, yeah, this mod is huge and we have to live with it. I'll gladly live with it, because it is so rich in resources!

Yeah, this mod is neatly done. The only reason why I am asking is that I only have 1gb of internet data a month and this mod is like 400-500mb, and i have to pay 50 pesos ($1 equivalent) every day for it. Don't get me wrong, I love this mod, its just the amount of data I need to download and play, and only the exes are the ones that has 300mb on the file

Hello:
The reason for creating so many folders is because that way I organize myself better. I know it sounds weird, but I tried to create everything in one file, and it confused me, I got errors everywhere, because some line was wrong. I also had no experience with this, and I had to learn from scratch, taking other mods as models. In the end, I got used to working like this. My biggest problem is not knowing how to design smaller maps and sprites. Those of the terrorist units, they are something else. The page that allows to create hwp, has helped me enormously. And what I said many times. Everything I have included, is free to use. This mods is heavily inspired by piracy of Dioxine, which I thank you for allowing me to use your sprites and maps. Very soon I will upload another version. Surely the mod has errors. I review each mod separately and I integrate it in a chain, say, as links. I see an image, I can think of an idea and development.

hi

i have put the openxcom20 folder in the user/mods directory and activated the mod but it doesn't load

Assuming i am doing something wrong any chance you could add some install instructions to your first post (and the latest download link) and perhaps add a readme.txt file to the download

cheers

Now this is funny!!! The instruction is pretty simple, unzip it anywhere and open it, there should be an exe in it

So tried your mod did x4 missions then i got some aliens that look liked superheros with capes??? they could mind control, used launchers and also good at melee (managed to kill one when it suicided by using its launcher on my tank at point blank range & the corpse said outsider soldier).
Those things are so OP; it single handedly took +15 hits with CR-12 Assault rifle + a minigun burst at point blank range (managed to sneak it in under smoke cover), and the shit still wont die.

In the end had to retreat back to transporter and abandon the mission. Lost my tank and half the team :(

Well, it's a complicated mod. It is thought, to put the difficult things to the player. The research itself is difficult, too. Progress is difficult. However, if the difficulty is too much, I will take care of it.

Alinare, your rar file is somehow corrupted, it can't be unpacked properly by any app I'm using.
I ran a full scan on it and seems like there is a virus inside the archive. I don't know if its at your PC or whatever platform you use for modding, or maybe because the upload caused the problem. Though looking forward playing the new version

Virus warning?  Yikes!  I'm not getting that, but I can't unpack the .rar file either... did you pack it up properly?  You can't use periods in file names if you're compressing them!

I have extracted the archive just now without any problems (using WinRAR).

I have also scanned it using 3 different antivirus programs (Symantec EP, MS Defender and ESET NOD) and found no viruses.

Can you at least provide a screenshot of the scan or a virus name before making such an accusation?

Of course you can use periods :)

Using WinRar?  That's some oldschool software right there.

WinRAR is still actively developed (more actively than 7zip in my opinion) and is also more dependable than 7zip (judging only by my experience, no benchmarks).
The only disadvantage is that it's not free... but I'll gladly pay for something I am using daily.

PS:
winrar last non-beta update: 14 August 2017
7zip last non-beta update: 2016-10-04

Hello:
Yes, I recognize that the structure of my mod is somewhat chaotic. It has so many folders and files, because I'm using some as template or template for the next one. For example, if I need a new weapon, copy one that I know is going well, and modify it. And so on. I then review the research, the manufacturing if necessary and modify it, testing each mod separately. Some can be chaotic and I understand. I tried to do it in a few files but between what little I knew when I started three long years ago, I made mistakes constantly. What of battlefield maps and UFOs taken from other mods, is because I can not do my own. I tried, but I find it impossible, although surely has no difficulty. My English may have errors. I already explained that I chose this language so that more people could enjoy it, since I am Spanish-speaking. I do not have any viruses that I know of, and the file in rar does not seem to contain any. However, if there is a problem, I will stop uploading new versions until solved. And as I explained, the reason for doing this mod, was due to the Piratez of Dioxine. I was fascinated by its breadth and all that can be done, and I decided to try my luck. The Endless War, tries to unite and include everything that has been important in the original game, and its continuations, such as Biomass. Also, I decided to include things totally alien, I recognize, as a kind of Steel Brotherhood, but I was attracted to the idea of expanding the mod with new enemies. I think it gives you depth, but it's only my opinion. I wanted to create a world as realistic as possible, if an alien invasion, for something like that. I imagined the suffering, the fear, the abandonment of the people. I am an amateur writer besides, and maybe, I got carried away by some issues. Anyway. I will solve the problems little by little. I may have been carried away by enthusiasm and embraced more than I could.
I am sorry for the inconvenience that may have caused some, so complex. I will try to improve the structure of the mod, but I have already got used to working this way.
I forgot to add, I compressed it with the latest version of winrar, with all the mods activated, because I recognize that doing it one by one, can despair anyone. It took me about half an hour to do it myself. So, just unzip and run the exe. When I modify something, I recompress it and so on all the time. Use sprites of other mods, for human or alien characters, for the same reason as UFO maps and the battlefield. I have not been able to create one that looks good. As an example, the Mongorns, or the Andromedon, inspired by XCOM, do not just convince me, the truth. With those of the units of terror and the invaluable help of the page of falco, I think that was called the author, the OXC Modtools, I find it much easier. In any case, I have never tried to appropriate the work of anyone, quite the contrary. There are sprites of the War of the Shadows, appearing abandoned, and other mods, such as the Xenops. Their UFOs inevitably attracted me.

Well 376 MB download is really a load!  :o Maybe updating first post and having a changelog may be appreciate to keep track of changes. It really deserves to be published on mod portal (http://www.openxcom.com/), of course with an external download link.

Hello:
I've been testing the mod, and apparently, everything works fine. However, I need a description of the error or a screenshot, if possible, to check where it fails and fix it. From what some of you describe, I suppose it could be some missing image of ufopedia. They are housed in the finalmod pack folder.

Alinare, your rar file is somehow corrupted, it can't be unpacked properly by any app I'm using.
It's packed in RAR5 format. An antivirus that doesn't know the new format will give a warning, that a file cannot be tested and is potentially hazardous, which may look like a virus warning. The format has been marked "experimental" for years and other programs were hesitant to support it.

It can be unpacked by WinRAR from September 2013 or later. Or by 7-ZIP from August 2015 or later.

Oh, that must be my antivirus picked up, though when I tried WinZip, I managed to extract it without problems.
Sorry alinare, I really thought it was a virus, but I'm just wrong, sorry! Your mod rocks...

No problem. Maybe the folder structure of my mod may have confused some antivirus. In fact, The Endless War is installed on my computer, to test it, correct bugs and verify it. And I check continuously, that there are no viruses or Trojans. As I said, I thought I'd do everything in one file, but I've gotten used to working like this, in separate folders. If something can be reproached, is to borrow some material, for UFOs and some sprites, because I am denied to create them, and the chaotic structure of the mod.

Hello:
First of all, apologies. I should have put screenshots, and a list of the changes that I'm adding, I know, but now I barely have time, although I'm introducing new changes and things, as soon as I have a free time. The game has an end. Of course, although with many novelties that occur to me, although the theme, comes to be the same as the classic game, this is the alien invasion. I have tried to synthesize some concepts of several XCOM games, including the Aftermath saga. Soon I will upload another new version.

Can you provide more precise/detailed examples? How is the start compared with say regular XCOM? I saw there's enough planes, vehicles, gear and stuff to overwhelm a beginner, and I'm not sure how useful most of the available stuff is actually.

All I can say is that this mod (its not a game!) is awesome, but too much micromanagement can kill you if you don't know what you are doing. Stick with the UFOPAEDIA, the info there will help you know what's useful for you, and what is not. To say, this mod is WAAY too hard, even a vet won't be finishing this mod within a month (Vanilla only takes few days).

FUKKIN HELL!! Finally managed to finish this  mod, after 5 months of non stop gaming!

I can now safely say that the Mod is really way too hard, the early game enemies and early game funds dilemma ca really throw someone off the mod. So far this Mod has already beaten Hellrazor's Hardmode Expansion in terms of difficulty and content.

I would suggest on nerfing the difficulty a lot since I, myself a veteran to xcom, cant even manage to beat it in just a month because of the monstrous difficulty, the easy one already feels like 10X superhuman difficulty

I took a look at the mod, and it is very intriguing. I can see there is a lot of material, like TONS of new stuffs. It have a very interesting atmosphere, and I think it has a lot of potential. But there are several details to polish that make the mod a little unbearable.

DISCLAIMER: I´m not a modder, and I don´t want to interfere with your creative processes. I just think this has a lot of potential and maybe the next suggestion could make this mod an awesome one.

- I don't know if lots of research at the beginning of the game should be there. You have lots of research and options that looks like they are not polished yet. I understand that each mod needs some time to get used to, but here you have at the beginning lot of research that looks like should be locked at the beginning, like those body recovered researches.

- The lore looks fantastic, but not only the articles on the ufoapedia needs better order, but lot of redaction is frankly deficient. (I know, I´m not an English native speaker and I make lots of horrible mistakes, but it is a point I need to remark). I know it is hard, but I think you can try to make a better sense and place for each element in the mod.

- The way you organize the mod is a little weird. I don't say there is a correct answer, but deleting all the normal standard mods and make that folder your default mod folder is a little different from several others big mods. And to have tons of minimods... well, I guess it helps you to see all the things that you have, but it is just weird.

- The last download has a folder with lots of executables, and there are some savegames too, that looks like they are test that you are doing. There is another thing you have in the download that you should not have, but I can tell that on a PM.

- More than a suggestion, a question. There are some options that are intended for playing the mod?, things like explosions types, instants grenades or not, etc. Maybe you can enforce some and let the others free.

Those are some of the stuff. As I say before, I think this project have a great potential, but needs some serious polishing. You are doing an awesome work, the quantity of content and the atmosphere are just fantastic!.

Wish you a lot of patience and luck and success with this awesome project.

Hello:
Thank you for your advices. You are right. The research is a bit chaotic, although I tried to create a mod, where this aspect was complicated. I did not intend to mess it up so much, but I've been ircorporating things, because of my desire to include everything that has occurred to me.
When I created the mod, from the first one I did, the one from Mig-27, I wanted to create everything in a single file, but I had errors, I was learning, and I opted for this folder solution. Now, it's a bit difficult for me to change my work mode.
The executable files have been a mistake of mine. I was trying different executables as they came out, and it happened to me to remove them. The saved games are proofs, effectively. Another mistake of mine.
If I have included some material that I should not, I apologize and I will withdraw it, of course. If it is for the maps, it is due to my null ability to create them. Dioxine gave me his permission. If this is not the case, with other authors, I will acknowledge your work or withdraw that material. The issue is that the different mods are so interrelated that you would surely have to remove the entire mod.
The Ufopedia is chaotic, I know, but I think that as you investigate things, the order of appearance is not relevant. The writing is poor. I do not master English well, right. I thought about writing the mod in Spanish, but I preferred to take a risk, and do it that way, so that more people can play it, although some grammatical expressions are really horrible.
I have not analyzed that question of options, although I suppose that they can be used without problems. In the mod there is no restriction in this respect as far as options are concerned.
Currently, the mod is playable. In fact, someone has managed to complete it, I think in half a year, and that has seemed good. He was kind enough to narrate his experience in the forum.
Right now, I create the folders of new mods, by hobby, at the rate of two-three a day. I try them, and I see that they are going well, I move on to the next one, when I feel like resuming it. In fact, The Endless War, it can be finished, but I'm still including things. I think what started as an experiment has turned into something huge. I have a tendency, it may be a bad habit, to mix different issues, and themes, from games, movies, anything, and have it included in the mod or inspired by it, with different luck. The chaotic nature of The Endless War, is due to this. I have much more content, but for the moment, I will not upload another version until I debug it well.
In fact, this mod, could be compared, humbly, and saving the distances, of course, with a very old man, who is building a cathedral in Mejorada del Campo, in Madrid, for more than fifty years, with his hands, and that is not over yet. The example I think is valid, to give an idea of what The Endless War really represents.

Alinare, I think the thing ajnunezr saying is that in the mod package, the original game files are also distributed with it, which itself can be used for piracy. I pretty much recommend that every time you pack the mod, remove the original vanilla files and then upload. That's the wrong thing you accidentally done. (I was going to report this when I analyzed the data structure of the mod, but somehow I forgot because I'm busy finishing this mod :) )

A good mod
but does the cell blocks have a function cause when i tried to stun the enemy it says i don't have a running alien containment so they had to be killed.

In the current version v1.14 the mod structure looks quite messy and too many mods who could be combined into one.
Then you have the dependencies intact when you enable or disable a mod.

First post of the topic has info about disabling/enabling mods
"Do not deactivate any mod, as this could create gaps in the game. Leave it by default, as it is. To a greater or lesser extent, all mods are related to each other. Logically, everyone, is free to do what he prefers."

Hello:
New version of mod. I have removed some "sensitive" files from the OpenXcom folder. I have left the essentials for it to work. I have also introduced a list of changes made, as promised, since the last update.

I'm impressed with the inmensive amount of content. And the backstory. I liked a lot the tanks and the Mars missions.
Haha I've noticed that some of the tanks are from some mod Command & Conquer Red Alert 2 YR, are not? Otherwise, great job.

Hello:
I'm glad that the mod is being well received. Soon I will make a new update. The vehicles I took from Command and Conquer, by chance, looking for sprites to create new models. I saw that one fit well, and from there, to the rest. Perhaps, the animation of the helicopter is a little strange, flying with the blades stopped  ;D. If someone knows how to create the appropriate effect, go ahead.

I have downloaded and extracted the archive using WinRAR without any problems.

Hi !

I'm getting game crash when I'm viewing some of UFOpaedia entries, like missiles. Game cannot find sprite/graphics file.

Here's log message about problem:
Quote
[15-06-2018_22-58-23]   [FATAL]   A fatal error has occurred: Sprite UP052.SPK not found
[15-06-2018_22-58-23]   [FATAL]   Unfortunately, no stack trace information is available
[15-06-2018_22-58-27]   [FATAL]   OpenXcom has crashed: Sprite UP052.SPK not found
Extra information has been saved to openxcom.log.
If this error was unexpected, please report it to the developers.

Little investigation and I found, that entries causing crash, has got "extraSprites: > files:(filepath)" section missing in rule sets, in game/standard folder.

If it's much work to fix it, I will try to do it on my own.

There are more bugs in Ufopedia (Vulcan cannon entry). Also, are you interested in me helping to iron out your text in game? I mean to improve sentences a bit, so they don't sound like from Google translate. If yes, PM me, please. Don't take this as an insult, I am actually impressed, as it must have been hard to make a mod of such size.

Hello:
No insult, dear friend, certainly not. It is more, I am the one who feels disappointed with myself, and my work, for not having reviewed my work better, to avoid these frustrating mistakes.  :'( I apologize for that. If someone can help me identify the errors that occur, to be repaired and launch a new version as soon as everything is in order, would be helpful.

Hello:
I have already found the reason for so many mistakes. When creating the latest version of the mod, I accidentally deleted a necessary folder to make it work. I include it here This should solve the errors that occur in the Ufopedia. You just have to unzip it in the UFO folder. Again, I apologize for these unpleasant failures.

Hello:
Thanks for the cheering. Maybe I should not include it in the Ufopedia, but I was so discouraged, I thought it would be a good tribute. I'm sorry I told you this in the most inappropriate place, but I thought it was not wrong to do it. At home, we are all better, but he is still missing. My dog, unlike that of the Ufopedia, did not survive. Well, at least he did not suffer. I was already very old.
Thanks again.

Dear alinaare, since your mod has hundred of loads of graphics, how about to showoff/share these in the resources forum (https://openxcom.org/forum/index.php/board,23.0.html)? Maybe in a dedicated thread, with every assets in its sets of full components (eg weapons floorob, bigob and handob, same for aircraft, tilesets and so on, al8ng some screenshots) that would be suoerultracool :-[  8)

I have, and to say this is way too hard even on easy. The micromanagement will overwhelm you and the majority of the enemies doesn't have the same weakness. If you are to play this, I'll expect that you will finish this mod in 8 months or a year

- name: XBASS_21

Its funny when i shoot legion soldier with anti-material rifle 5 times and he doesn't even bleed. But still Endless war is great mod :-)

Any chance you will rearrange architecture and make a single folder, toggelable mod out of it? In current "I'll just RAR my whole game" state it's a bit of a pain in the ass to use it on other platforms...

Hello:
I recognize that you are absolutely right. It's chaos, I'm the first to admit it. The reason is because, in my early days with the mod, I did not know how to fit the lines, I had error alerts all the time, and I ended up working like that. I have tried to change it several times, but the result has been even worse. If there is a method to convert everything to a single file without errors, I am the first interested in applying it. Meanwhile, to find something, I search, if I have to change something.

I think it would be a good idea to make less weapons avalible at the beginning so its not so complicated to read all the ufopedia entries at the beginning. Maybe you could make a research topic to unlock some powerfull weapons like devastating cannon and impact cannon. Also some aircraft seem excess. You will never use them like bomber crafts...

I admire your consistent work so far, even though from what I read your mod sadly isn't as polished as Piratez and perhaps way too hard. I can't say myself personally since I haven't played it much so far and the last time I did was several updates ago.

Changelog v.1.19:

As far I as I can see, the Endless War is the biggest and still fast developing mode with perhaps 2x-3x more enemies comparative to any other.
That will be probably the third one I try after Piratez and X-Come Files.

You just need a higher version of RAR decompression tool, it uses RAR5.

Bluh, didn't notice. I'll download a newer tool and try again later.

This mod is enormous and has tons of content, although the file distribution is messy and takes forever to load, for not to mention it still has many glaring holes: Reading the ufoapedia at the start of the game causes issues, especially the section regarding enemy UFO, which causes the game to crash.

Hi, I have tried your mod and my overall feel is that it's... overwhelming. There's simply too much, too soon, too fast. On my first try, within 5 days I got invaded by someone, I have no idea who attacked my base because I haven't managed to kill a single enemy, despite sacrificing archon, 5 dogs and literally using ALL the ammo within base. I had to get creative with savegames to manage that. Not my proudest moment, but I was trying to see how everything works. Yes, I am playing at superhuman, BUT tactics mean nothing when I use all my ammo on a single alien and he doesn't even get a scratch.
Also, in my opinion, most of the things in the beginning are, well, useless. There's so much of it and cool looking, but i feel it's meaningless since I won't be using it. There's far too many planes, most of them I won't ever touch. Sure, it's nice to have all the russian jets, all the american squad or all EU shtick, but I feel it's not needed.
On the missions I got in the beginning, I felt 95% of weapons that could be purchased, while looking quite good, were less than useless. As far as I could see, weapons are too heavy for rookies to properly carry. I feel there's rather strong imbalance between weapon weights and ammo weights e.g. ZVI falcon ammo weighs 30, while loaded weapon weighs 15. So, with strength around 27 rookies cannot even carry a single rifle and a spare clip without loosing TU. Also, I believe incorporating weight equipped/str indicator would be very helpful.
Next, on many menus I found they did not have proper labels, rather STRING_XYZ placeholders. Not a biggie, but slightly detracts from experience. What I found frustrating is that ammos were all over the purchase screen. For example G36 clip was several weapons down, not under its' propre place, marksman rifle didn't have any clips attached  to (it was under HMG) it and so on.
A minor irritation I found was that in the beginning, my planes were not fueled. As soon as I tried to intercept UFO, I had to return to base, same with skyranger. Also, nowhere could I find weapons to fit on some of the planes. I presume that I could research new weapons, but never got around to it.
I feel UFOpedia could be better organized. For example, there are STORY SO FAR chapters, but they are not placed in any meaningful order. Perhaps instead of labeling them as STORY SO FAR CHAPTER 1 better way would be STORY SO FAR CHAPTER 01 (or 001, depending on number of chapters). This way sorting algorithm will not make a mistake and put CHAPTER 11, 12... after chapter 1. Also, I somewhat struggled with the meaning of ufopedia entries, I believe english is not your primary language? I hope I'm not offensive and it's not my intention to offend, but I believe I could help you out with writing, if you're interested.
I applaude your effort and I really feel there's a lot of potential here, it just needs a bit more shine and balancing.

Tried an instant battle last night just to get a feel for what you had in game, Notice some very sexy Pyramid Ufo :), also noticed a Bug, this Unit could not get out of the spacecraft, also is it meant to be a 4x4 unit?

Hello:
I thought your criticism was totally correct and correct. You are right in all your assessments, and I am constantly trying to improve the mod. Your words are very accurate and to offend me, nothing at all. It is true that my command of English is not exactly good. I am a Spanish speaker, but I decided to write the texts like this, so that it would reach more people. Now I'm trying to adapt it to the latest version of the Exe recently created by Meridian, from late January, because I have some errors related to the technology tree. This mod includes all the things that, in my personal opinion, I think the Original XCOM of 1994 should have had, although naturally, it doesn't have to be like that for everybody.

It'd be nice to modify the losing point amount, and item weights anyone know how to mod those variables?

So far I managed to make craft inventories less restricted, and modify the lose conditions, but the worse parts are the crash to desktop for things like human agents, or going to the sites of some landed ships, or base assaults.

Another issue is the bases don't appear with any indicators on the map you have to just know where they are and click on them.

If this error was unexpected, please report it to the developers.

When fighting the guys with reaper calvary and snakemen the game crashed when the mission ended.

You might want to attach the log file:
...
More details here: C:\Users\Nomad\Desktop\Games\The Endless War 1.19\Open Xcom 30\user\openxcom.log

And possibly the last save before the crash (with steps to reproduce).

That will make it a bit easier for folks to figure out what is going on (the part of the error log you've posted is too generic).

Does this even work anymore though? I tried the latest version and was unable to make it run. Even then, it was way too much content and no balance whatsoever. It is a true modder project, for what's worth.
