Title: Vertical Proximity Grenades?
Post by: Slaughter on July 31, 2016, 11:23:16 am
I remember that in the original game, it was possible to retrieve proximity grenades from the ground by flying and picking it up. The grenade would not explode because it only detects horizontal movement.

Just tried this stunt in a game, and the soldier died the moment he came down.

Bug or feature?

The original proximity grenades detect movement only in the surrounding eight squares, but not in the square on which the proximity grenade lies. The OXC implementation takes all nine squares into account when checking for movement.

IMHO, this is the correct behaviour.

It's tough to decide whether it's a bug or feature. The best way to figure this is if the AI can take advantage somehow. If not, I suppose it's more a lack of a feature rather than an AI exploit.

Found this the hard way when I once tried to disable a proximity grenade with a flying soldier
