Title: Converting pictures to the appropriate palette
Post by: nadir-1648 on January 30, 2016, 06:07:23 am
I'd like a little bit of help here, because I'm at a loss. I'm trying to get a picture converted to the appropriate palette for the UFOpaedia, but just loading the palette into it makes it look completely screwed because the original palette for it borders on complete insanity.

I really, really hope I can get it working without having to fix it all by hand, could somebody help me out?  :-[

here you go.

it's perfectly doable in photoshop:
1) make sure it's RGB: image > mode > RGB
2) change to indexed color: image > mode > indexed
3) in the window that pops up, select "personal" and load the "Ufopaedia.act" palette***
4) ok and done, save it as png-8.

maybe all the palettes attached into that topic, should be all made available in the first post

we're all just learning.
afaik falko's tool is designed mainly for switching palettes, from tftd-->ufo and viceversa; i've never used it though so i'm not sure.

Falko's tool is most useful for recoloring. You have a red-blue-green sprite, click, now it's pink-yellow-red, no rogue colors, no errors, fast and clean. It only works for battlescape palette afaik.

Alternatively mess around a lot with gradient maps and all kinds of jazz.
