Title: [Craft] X-95 Blackbird Hybrid Interceptor V0.5
Post by: Roxis231 on September 05, 2015, 09:49:09 pm
The X-95 Blackbird - A Fast, Effective Interceptor that also carries 7 troops.

This Mod lets you research and build the X-95 Blackbird, a hybrid Interceptor/Troop Carrier.

Almost as fast as the Firestorm and with twice as much acelleration as the basic Interceptor, the Blackbird is an efective craft that can also carry a small number of troops into battle.  Be warned though, the craft has limmited cargo space (55 items) due to its design.

The X-95 Blackbird possesses three access points, a rear ramp, a roof hatch (with lift) for airborn troops and a drop hatch located behind the front landing gear.

Mod can be found Here (https://www.openxcom.com/mod/x-95-blackbird)

Edit 19/09/15 Updated to V0.5
Changes: Fixed more wall and floor sprites, corrected LOFtemps and MCD's, fixed scanner maps, and got the Gravlift working

This Thread is for comments, sugestions, and discussion about this mod - And It's Now Open!

You need to ask Neoworm for his X-Men sprites (https://openxcom.org/forum/index.php/topic,2732.15.html) :D

Wasn't doing this as a X-Men thing, though I am a fan, I just like the Idea of the X-Jet, and copied the design.

If someone has X-Man sprites, and wants to link to my mod, feel free, All I ask is just don't add it in your mod without asking first

Really nice mod!

I plan to improve the map - more forward sloped wings, more realistic cockpit, realistic looking hatches ect...

I also plan to make a black/really dark blue recolour - for a more X-man look...

Any suggestions?

Almost finished a West/east faceing version to suplement the current North/south version.  (I've included a picture from mapview.)

Should be ready to be included in the next update.

Almost finished the update, just some small tweeks to do.

Picture of current changes is below.

Does anyone have any suggestions for what colour I should make the floor?

You might need to add a readme to the zip. I dont know where the files in the geo and ufopedia folders go.

Floor is fine, maybe you could use a bit darker tone, that's all. However the piping at the aft end began to really stand out in a bad way since you've made these nice custom walls. Maybe recolor them so they're more like the other inner walls?

You don't have to do anything, just unzip the whole thing in your Mod folder, and the game should pick it up.
Just check the readme for OpenXcom if your having trouble.

Done some work on the floor, working on a replacement for those pipes, they won't be ready for a bit.

I'm Updateing the mod today so here is a picture of the changes.

Updated the mod to V0.5

Fixed more wall and floor sprites, corrected LOFtemps and MCD's, fixed scanner maps, and got the Gravlift working( ;D)

My plans for V0.6 are: finally fix the roof hatches ( I STILL don't like the graphics I've got there ), fix the problems with the shadows ( need to learn more about MCD's and LOFtemps ), see of the scanner maps can be improved and possably add some animated stuff in the back.

Ahh now I understand. I was running OX 1.0 when I posted this. It is my further observation that the nightly has a different file structure.

see of the scanner maps can be improved

Unless you want to manually edit the SCANG.DAT (https://www.ufopaedia.org/index.php?title=SCANG.DAT) file, you're stuck to the vanilla scanner graphics. However, if you mod it then the changes will apply to all the maps that used the modded entries.

It was more along the lines of "does this graphic fit the map" sort of thing.

Almost finished the recolour (see attached picture) - just thinking on whether I should use it as an a reskin or an upgrade, any thoughts?

Very smooth, just these white... covers? Near the hatch. They stand out in a really bad way.

Yeah - they are supposed to be the 'inside' of the hatch - I'm still working on those graphics, a light grey perhaps? any sugestions?

With that cool red hatch, I think you can make them simply uniform with the rest of the roof... Their square shapes stand out even more than their color.

It's something to look into that's for sure.

Right now I'd like to know if people want an upgradeble 2 stage version of the Blackbird of just simply the darker coloured version.

If by 'inside' you mean the inside of the craft, then you could literally make the hatch "open" as in: transparent.
The floor tiles (all tiles actually) can be transparent (aka empty graphics).
(I would still not make tiles completely transparent, since I had bizarre behaviors; so for example keep the borders of the tile leaving all the inside empty).
Once you have a "hole" on the roof, the real craft interiors are seen thought it naturally.

Umm...  Its actually supposed to be a lift if you look closely.

By 'Inside', I mean the underside if the hatch, that becomes visiable when you flip it open - like the inside of a cubbord door, or the underside of a washing machines lid.  I'm already use those mechanics in the lift if you look at it closely.

Ah, I understand now. My solution is wrong then.

Hey. I'm considering adding the Blackbird to Redux since I need a fast transport to replace the current Skyrider, would that be OK with you?

Sure - Just give me credit for the work, try not to change too much, and it should be fine.

Also let me know if there are any graphics / Mcd / LOFtemps problems.

Thanks, I haven't made my mind yet on how to better use it on my mod. Graphically I won't change anything about it, only how to use the map - either it will be an XCom craft, or an enemy craft or even as a specific map in one of my terrains. But you'll be properly credited, whatever the use.

The lattest nightly (2016-01-27 23:25) lets you use craft for manufacturing - I might be able to use this, I'll do some experimenting this weekend.

Hi All - This is being posted in all my threads.

This is a Note to everyone who uses my Mods.

On Monday morning, when I went to turn my PC on, there was a bang and smoke started to flow from the power supply. While my drives and data are intact, the power supply and motherboard are toast. (I'm posting this from a borrowed laptop at the local library)

I have got a replacement lined up, but I'm currently waiting for some parts to arrive. (They should be here in a week/week and a half) I'm sorry but untill my PC is back up and running I have to put any changes/fixes to my mods on hold.

However please keep any suggestions/requests/bug reports comeing in. I can still work with these - I just can't make any changes till I get my new PC.

Sorry to hear that. Your mod looks awesome.

Here's a question, I know this is a hybrid interceptor/transport, but would it be possible to make the weapon loadout effect the crew capacity? IE, equipping weapons uses up the crew space and visa versa?

Thanks - My new machine is getting there, Just waiting on some components I had to order in.

No - This Mod was made for OpenXCom.  This might be possable in Yankes' OXE (OpenXcom Extended) but I haven't looked into it yet.

Woah, not into planes or non-alien stuff but I gotta give this one credit for being unique, especially in the battlescape.

It could be possible to have two versions of the craft, which could be converted into each other via the workshop. Not sure if that would fuck up hangar capacity or not. (You would need an empty hangar to manufacture a craft, but the existing craft would take up a hangar until consumed by the workshop project, unless you had a spare hangar you wouldn't be able to start the project)

Probably too much work anyways. Hybrid interceptor is fine as it is.
