Title: [UI] 2 small UI mods (must have!) KNEEL INDICATOR + RESERVE UI
Post by: new_civilian on June 15, 2015, 11:42:26 am
Here 2 tiny mods I made.

-Kneel Indicator on Unit Cursor-

What does this mod do:
----------------------------------
It is sometimes impossible to tell if a unit is kneeling or not in OpenXCom (and XCom) because of walls (and/or other things) blocking your view and some other persons and me wanted a Kneel-Indicator of some kind. A guy named Mono suggested to add a red dot to all the unit armor kneeling graphics, but while that works, it is simply impossible due to the many different armor mods out-there, so I went for a simple and imo better solution:

I added a small red line to the unit cursor, that is EXACTLY at the top of a KNEELING soldier's head. The line is absolutely non-distractive and works with most (all?) armors that I know of.

Installation:
----------------
To install the mod, just copy the folder named Kneel_Indicator_Cursor into your OpenXcom mods folder, activate it in the options and play. The mod does not overwrite anything and can be switched on/off without any problems.

Feel free to use this files in any way you like. (Especially the FMP and Piratez team!) Theoretically it should also work in the original XCom, but I haven't tested that.

and

-Slightly improved UI-

What does this mod do:
----------------------------------
Reworks the Time Reserve UI in the tactical screen for easier visualization.

Installation:
----------------
To install the mod, just copy the folder named Better_Ingame_UI into your OpenXcom mods folder, activate it in the options and play. The mod does not overwrite anything and can be switched on/off without any problems.

Feel free to use this files in any way you like. (Especially the FMP and Piratez team!)

Here something else, that I consider not officially release-worthy: It was an attempt to militarize/Nato/WP style the globe Icons a bit, in other words I made everything friendly blue, enemy reds, and cities green/yellow

About time someone came up with an indicator for whether you are kneeling or not. The amount of tu's I've lost in games by getting this wrong as I couldn't tell what position my troop was in was very annoying so well done. Just wondering on a second point, I like the new tu reserve mod but is this just an update of an older mod by yourself, see attached.

Well i am gonna give this a try later on.

EDIT: The ui thing is really good, gonna pull this into my Mod. The kneeling indicator is to destracting in my eyes.

Really?  :o

Maybe I should release some variants with a dotted line and/or different colors?...

Well change the line, make is appear on all animationframes of the cursor, and remove roughly 1/3 of the line in the middle. This should still be enough to identify safely if a unit is kneeling or standing and isn't that disruptive.

Ok here 2 more cursors to chose from. one with reduced line in the same color, one with reduced line and different colors. I hope now all are happy  ;D

I like the same one very much, now it isn't as distracting as before.

You still let it have a complete line, i asctually had something in the mind like this:

You know, with the new Mod structure you can create Scenarios of your Mod, civilian.
Infos about scenarios can be found here (https://openxcom.org/forum/index.php/topic,3617.msg44622.html#msg44622)
I presume that this not only works for ruleset files, but also for all other files.

So you could have all those variants in one mod package whcih everyone could then active on his behalf.
Could you produce a PCK file with my variant in it? OR should i provide you with a modified one?
