so i been working on this new alien sprite whole day finally works now. doesn't have proper ruleset floorb or bigobs yet . or sounds.
the alien is called ant man
is gonna be the ufo defense version of lobsterman but a bit different making sense of my other melee mod. they gonna come just before mutons and gonna stay until the end
they have hands and animation for holding stuff but in the game they mostly gonna use this built in special attack im gonna make for them and they will have some alien grenades and a mind probe at times and rarely pistols. the special attack is an LOS limited range attack of sorts that can also hit melee stun damage. kinda like a combo gun ranged/melee. the ranged component is a psi attack buletless instant travel with a type of special hit animation. is not real psi psi attack but is meant to look like one.
oh btw thy have 4 hands 2 for weapons and 2 for melee attack.
so is psi wielding, psi/melee attack mostly weaponless tough skin alien.
or if you got any ideas what do you think i should do with them?
(btw ignore muton commander there i used a muton to modify it into this and i was messing around with that hahaha)

I like the palette and the general look of this alien. The only problem I see is that the upper and lower arms both seem to grow from the same place, which doesn't look convincing. Do you thing you could rearrange them, or even (gasp) remove the smaller upper ones?

i can remove them but i kind wanted a thri-kreen looking creature has 4 arms :) i'm gonna re-arange them a bit to make them higher see if that works :-)

Looks interesting! Good job so far. Now it has me thinking that it would be cool to make a Kilrathi alien race from Wing Commander Series...hrrmmm. Muton looks like a good one to start and add some really good bare handed melee. I may have to dust off my poor graphic skills now....

That's what I was thinking. Make the colors with more orange, red, and yellows.

but to stay true with UFO you need to name them not their actual race name but their look-like name. Lobsterman, Gillman, etc etc. Snakeman. It would be Feline Man o Felinoid or Lionoid or Tigeroid or Panther Man or something. Lion Man?

Attaching an alternative, orange metal Muton sprite, might be useful in this department.

how abut stlaker and make it aggresion 1 or 0 (balanced or passive) and give it a melee attack so he will just wait for you and ambush you instead of looking out for you and an intelligence of 8 make him very smart

Your question is tricky, but if I was thinking along the lines of the "ant" theme, I'm reminded of those bugs ants use as "cows" to milk. Maybe those caterpillars (I think aphids too) could be more omnious of course. Some kind of symbiotic relationship between the terror units and the ant critters.

they will have 2 terror units eventually
ant man - (real name klackon?)
high fontal resistance to damage
high resistance to most damage types but weak against melee and stun. otherwise only 45 hp so 1 stun rod can bust them down.
they all got psi attack power 20 and intelligence is 4+
they use drones to scout out the enemy and just psi weaken them THEN attack..you will see drones a lot not just in terror missions ..in terror mission there will be another terror unit that i haven't designed yet
they are even more insanely resistant than lobsterman but mostly frontal...they take only 10% damage from AP 20% from incendiary, he , 30% from laser , 40% from plasma, 70% from acid 200% from melee and 140% from stun
Probe - terrorist unit
low hp
really high accuracy
a built in low damage laser
high tu
i'm wanna give it a built in medkit . Can aliens use medikit weapons?? i guess i will find out.

But may I suggest Hunter-seeker instead of Probe? That name fit better for a quick, sniping droid. Probe suggest an unarmed exploring device.
Also really interested by the Antman autopsy. Nice creature, just a bit bulky. The pedia picture suggest a slender thing instead of a bulky, big head. I assume you shall explain it with a caste-based hive society where the worker showed on the picture but the player encounter with the warrior caste.
And they really deserve a new craft with alien garden interrior... Hiveship mayhaps?

An interesting idea, though they'd need their own special missions for this. Maybe instead make a special alien base mission, just for them?

still balancing him out.
they are very strong but not as strong as lobsterman. i keep going back and forth on the details.
but right now they are abit weaker than lobsterman ...disregard the armors above
new stats
- 1.0 nothing
- 0.2 ap
- 0.3 incendiary
- 0.4 he
- 0.4 laser
- 0.5 plasma
- 1.1 stun
- 2.0 melee
- 0.7 acid
- 0.0 smoke
Antmen have agggression 1 (balanced) while probes have aggression 2. All antmen have psi attack but is really weak soldier has psi 10. Probes are also really high TU and weak ish . So the idea is probes find you and Antmen will just stay behind and psi attack you. They don't really engage much in open combat unless they have to.
Here is my idea. Antmen don't have a leader , commander or specific roles. They are all soldier rank. The only difference is you get Psi-focus and or battle focused. Generic is tough and weak psi. Leader/commander is soldier with tougher psi but weaker armor. Support roles like engineer or medic are filled up by terror units.

Antmen just employ drones and other terror units to fill their ranks. They are unable to be better than each they as they are all equal. They simply focus on psi or on combat. That's it. Psi focused antman is commander/leader but is essentially weaker /higher psi antman soldier.

hive mind for sure. would be really cool to have a hive/insect type ship/base. maybe a base.

I like this alien and in battlescape specially, but putting the ufopaedia image into proper shape is gonna be not easy. I just hope the author(tollworkout) will finish this :)

check this out sneak peak of new ufopaedia :) mix of chrys & waspite and my own painting..the idea is to make it look a lot like the other aliens and like xcom vanilla style. so all insects have similar features legs/ eyes for ex etc

haha i just realized i been using drone and probe interchangeable and so has everyone else :)
is gonna be hunter seeker from now on. is incredibly agressive and shoots like 5 times low damage . is just annoying as shit. and they explode like cyberdisk but radius is 3 instead of 6 but same power. so they are just all scouting killing suicidal machines . their purpose is to weaken/expose the enemy so antman can use psi attacks .

Good start. Although, it kind of looks like it's eating the green thingie instead of looking like it's internals. Maybe move it down a bit from the mandibles. Also, my brain is recognizing it as the Celatid internals, so maybe change the color from green to something else like yellow or bright pink if you can.
BTW, good job moving the arms around to make it look dead.

hey guys you can try and test this out pre -alpha release i recommend playing with my melee mod as it makes it easier to deal with them. plasma is much more easy against them but all other weapons not so good.
works in battle mode only they don't appear in the game yet i didn't add that into ruleset
the ufopaedia images still need some fixing up they have a few issues still
and drone image is temporary i'm gonna make a better one.
and the animation for lower hands has a bit of issues i noticed once or twice esp in the walking cycle. i have to go trough all the frames again ill do that tomorrow.

Been working so hard that i'm taking a break from modding this specific mod but I'll be back. I'm still working on the other mods though.
i just need to fix graphics and add a terror unit which is gonna be that doom brain spider unit. Hunter-Seeker is not meant to be a terror unit but it fills the role of Ant Man Engineer.
I also need to make them appear in the game.
SOON! Too much ant-man for this week hahaha.

You need to add this to FMP when its complete ofc. It might be a fine replacement for the TFTD units. Then again I am the only one who complains about it so, just simply add them :P
Troll, this is excellent and I cant wait to get my paws on it. Though I liked the first iteration of the Ufopedia better XD

Not that I dislike the drone.
Check 4, and 3 or simply google Brahmin Caterpillar its suitably alien. However those need (I assume) a ton of work to make.

Um... that only applies to some of them. I'll admit, a lot of them, but the Muton, Sectoid, Tasoth, and Xarquid seem to have at least more scientifically given names, if not an equivalent given by psionic/traditional interrogation. At least perhaps the codename used in alien infiltration and other missions. Easier perhaps to get people to trust you if you're the envoy of a fictional people rather than who your conquered species is currently working for.
