WHAT DOES THIS MOD DO?
This mod adds one new armour for your troops. It's available to buy from day 1.

It uses recoloured Calcinite sprites.

WHY WAS IT MADE?
This armour was made for my flamethrower operatives, who have an annoying tendency of setting themselves on fire. It also adds some resistance to acid.

WHAT IS THIS NEW ARMOUR?

This armour is available in the shop, at $10K a piece. It is highly resistant to fire and smoke, and moderately so to acid. However, it only offers a marginally better protection while severely limiting the soldiers' stamina, accuracy and reactions, so it's impractical to issue it to your soldiers en masse.

Since the vanilla game doesn't put you against fire very often, this armour is not that usable. However, if you use flamers or similar weapons, or go against firey (or mildly acidic) opponents, this would be a good thing to wear.

HOW DO I INSTALL THIS MOD?
- Open the "OpenXcom\data" folder,
- Copy the "Ruleset" and "Resources" folders to the "OpenXcom\data" folder, merging with existing folders with the same name (no files will be overwritten),
- Enable the mod from the Game Options menu.

CHANGELOG:
1.5: Updated to the latest mod structure.
1.4: Improved acid resistance, decreased weight, but also decreased basic armour value.
1.3: Added German version (by Humax).
1.2: Fixed sprites.
1.1: Added French translation (by Ascadix).
1.0: Added the armour.

Looks good. Going to buy some. But I don't have flamethrowers? Where do they sell them?

They're in the Final Mod Pack (courtesy of Dioxine). Warboy also made one (but it uses his own branch of code and doesn't work with normal OpenXCom at the moment). Probably there are others too :)

If Dioxine agrees, I might actually make a standalone version of the flamethrower. If people are interested, that is.

Oh, and thanks :)

Yes, I think there should be a flamethrower mod (or couple) that is easily accessible. At least with these new nice suits :)

Awesome. Now I can nuke everything in sight with incendiary rounds.

WORLD MUST BURN

Good idea!

I like playing with fire as well. ::)

But are the green-blue shoes intended or just a recoloring glitch?
I would also remove the green patches from the leg sprites, looks kind of weird.

I wouldn't say it's a glitch, more like a conscious decision on my part, but not necessarily a good one - I may still change it.

And I like the white/green contrast, though perhaps it's not as good here. I'll work on these sprites more when I have the time; this is my first attempt at anything like this, and I don't even know what's a good result. :)

I fixed the sprites, removed the green colour that didn't look so great. Download 1.2 to see.

My 2 cts : French extraStrings:

  - type: fr
    strings:
      STR_HAZMAT_ARMOR: Combinaison Hazmat
      STR_HAZMAT_ARMOR_UC: Combinaison Hazmat
STR_HAZMAT_ARMOR_UFOPEDIA: Cette combinaison ignifugée offre une excellente protection au feu et à une assez bonne résistance aux produits chimiques et autres acides, mais elle réduit notablement la visibilité et la mobilité.

OK, it'll be updated with the next version. Thank you!

German Translation:

Code: [Select]
- type: de
    Strings
       STR_HAZMAT_ARMOR: Schutzanzug
       STR_HAZMAT_ARMOR_UC: SCHUTZANZUG

Thanks for the text, I really appreciate it, but it doesn't show correctly for me, so I can't copy it to the ruleset. I'm not sure why, German texts were fine before.

To cut to the shortest solution, could you please put it in a .txt file, save it in UTF-8 and attach it to another post? I'd be grateful.

Our Umlaut letters often cause problems. ;D
I've fixed and  integrated the translation directly into your ruleset, see attachment. It seems to display correctly.

BTW, look at this wikipedia image of a WWI style hazmat suit :o

Yes! A flamethrower mod would be amazing.

I can't really remember, but I'm fairly sure I modified the sprite, since it's a very old mod and TFTD routines probably didn't exist back then.

I thought I had seen one somewhere but one could be implemented with a decent hit animation.

Are there any flamethrower mods on the forums? Maybe I didn't dig deep enough, but I didn't find any.

I don't know if there are that many standalone mods that just add a flamethrower, but here's a topic that discusses them (https://openxcom.org/forum/index.php/topic,3377.msg39601.html#msg39601).  You can also just copy from mods that use them; I know Final Mod Pack/X-Com Files has one or two, same with Piratez.

It's a very nice animation, but it's a hit animation, while flamethrowers need explosion animation. I did a quick job of converting your sprite. It's a different resolution, so pixels are bigger, but I think it still gives a nice effect - like on old arcade games.

Here's an older flamethrower mod that I still use sometimes.

I downloaded the flametosser mod linked by SIMON (thanks btw), but now I can't download the hazmat suit mod because the link directs to the mod portal which is currently drunk and non-functional. Could you please add a direct download link maybe?

Would it be possible to make a flamethrower which creates a line of explosions in front of the soldier? I'm thinking similar to the Inferno spell from Diablo 1, another isometric game:

Just pondering possibilities.

Sadly, no... Or we'd do it like this from the very beginning. ;)
