23) Landing/Crash Site windows.
Add infos in Landing/Crash Site windows, sometimes the player can have 2 or 3 troop transports sent to several destinations, and he is occupied to send interceptors to another UFO; and then a troop transport reach his destination but which UFO is it?
As usual, images are for explanation only (this one is so ugly) ;)

Add the starting base name next/under the craft name.
Display infos about the UFO (depending on the radar, standard or Hyper-wave Decoder).
Display if it's Day or Night (Icon or/and text).

+2 for Day/Night icon because it is usefull for select between smoke granate or flash light
- 0.5 for Alien race/mission type
+ 0.5 for the others

Eh if you've got a hyperwave decoder you've had access to the race/mission info already, so makes sense to add that to the dialogue. A more granular display of the light level would be better than day/night as well.
Given the fact that you can rename craft or track their numbers I don't think we really need to include their base of operations. If you want that info just name your crafts Skyranger-EU or Avenger-AU, etc...

Yes, I would like the GUI to show all info I'm supposed to know anyway.

-1, Too much info is worse than not enough, when its clutter.

I like only the day/night/dusk/dawn indicator actually.
Is someone skillful (and willing) enough to create these images and save them in correct palette? Min size 16x16, max size 24x24.
a/ Preferably all three:
- sun
- moon
- sunrise/sunset
b/ but 2 would also be enough... sun/sunrise/sunset being the same
c/ or even 1 (sun) would be enough in worst case... no icon indicating night :)
I could then implement it... but I am no artist myself.
PS: the one on the screenshot is from Skype, 19x19... but we can't use it of course, need something own

Shouldn't bee too hard. I'd like to help. Is the correct pallete Geoscape?
Which size is preferable?
Cheers, Ivan :D

Should be geoscape palette, yes.
Size depending on what looks good... minimum 16px, max 24px... the example on the screenshot has 19px for comparison (with 2x zoom of course).
If you do 2 or even all 3 images, they should have the same size.

How about doing it simpler... a palette swap for a night mission? Current pink (default) window can go with day missions, green could go with dusk/dawn missions (light 6-14?), blue with night missions. Could be ruleset-controllable. Better than an out-of place icon if you ask me...

Here are some options but I'm having some issues with palletes.
Larger:

Palette swap seems less disruptive, especially since you only need a "nighttime variant".
(Ideal would be a specific background image for each combination of terrain and lightness : daytime farm, nighttime polar,...)

I like the last sun (4), last moon (7) and last sunrise (10).
Can you make a picture with just these (and no padding)?

I tried palette swap today, and didn't like it.
I'll try Ivan's images later and make them optional (turned off by default)... or abandon completely if even that doesn't look nice.

Ok, here is the shortened image.

Can you remove the padding (the empty space)?
It needs to fit the maximum size (24x24 pixels), currently it is 32px wide and 40px high.

Derp!
Will do!

Ok, this I think is in the Ufopaedia palette. Let me know if it works.
-
It doesn't work.
a/ palette is wrong
b/ background is not transparent
There are 5 palettes in the game: https://www.ufopaedia.org/index.php?title=PALETTES.DAT#UFO
1. geoscape palette (e.g. INTICON.PCK: https://www.ufopaedia.org/index.php?title=INTICON.PCK)
2. basescape palette (e.g. BASEBITS.PCK: https://www.ufopaedia.org/index.php?title=BASEBITS.PCK)
3. graphs palette (e.g. GRAPHS.SPK)
4. research palette (e.g. UP031.SPK: https://www.ufopaedia.org/index.php?title=UP001.SPK-UP042.SPK)
5. battlescape palette (e.g. SMOKE.PCK: https://www.ufopaedia.org/index.php?title=SMOKE.PCK)
You need to use "1. geoscape palette".
I have added support for the indicator already and I will release a new version later in the evening and then you play play with it until you find the correct solution ;-)
I have no idea how to help you with it though, I am a graphics ultra-noob.

Can this be optional? I don't like these icons. Since you don't like background color swap, can this be optionally replaced by numbers representing the lighting level (0-15)? Two numbers should be roughly the same size as an icon, and they won't stand out so badly.

It is completely optional... it is done the same way as the Kneel Indicator... if you don't provide the ruleset entries and the graphics files, it won't do anything.
EDIT: I will not be adding numbers, there are less than 20 people on the planet who would understand what they mean

Here's what I decided to use
extraSprites:
- type: DayNightIndicator
width: 72
height: 24
subX: 24
subY: 24

Is the half-sun representing semi-darkness?

Yes.
Btw. it's a rising sun over the ocean horizon :)

Not a hill? :)
And the night is still symbolized by the full moon, right?

No, I left the night as blank (middle sprite)... if I don't see any indicator, it's night.

I still like the full moon. I've been using these for a while, and they are terrific. :)
