Title: Amiga lazer!
Post by: BlastHardcheese on June 21, 2011, 03:39:07 pm
I really liked the shooting effect in the Amiga version, they used this effect for everything in the game but is there any chance we could use this for just the lazer weapons instead of the default effect?

Example:

Having a solid beam like that makes much more sense to me and it looks awesome lighting up the screen like that!

I'm not so sure about the direct beam since you can't show multiple screens of where it came from.

But it did give me an idea.  If the laser beam in our game already lights up a few squares around it.  Maybe it could make enemies temporarily visible while the beam passes by and then the alien disappears when it's dark again?  I'm talking about enemies within visible range in daylight that are out of range due to darkness.  It'd be pretty cool.

How about we add splitting the screen as a feature? Would be a welcome addition, here's a quick concept:

That would be very atmospheric in dark terror missions, I like it!

I am 100% for this idea. For some weapons, at least lasers, this would be a great idea.

If we are required to show start point of fire, we could make it fire longer. Like in Master of Orion II on slow speed - energy weapon slowly turns on and off, and there is no problem with that. After all, every animation is looped so there is no problem.

I don't know if i would like to split the screen but a  "Picture in Picture " option would be nice. Maybe have it pop up on the top  top right of the screen when you start blasting, as seriously what gamer doesn't have a Wide screen monitor these days. As usual there should be a option in the combat option list for this to be turned on or off.
This would be awesome when your doing auto shots, no more waiting for each bullet to travel at once.
