Title: New sf theme
Post by: michal on February 11, 2011, 10:18:27 am
https://sourceforge.net/projects/openxcom

Is it only me, or with every new theme sf is looking worse?

I prefered old layout when i saw svn commits in summary. Now i have to switch to "develop" tab.

Same thoughts here. I also fancied the SVN commits summary on the main page :(

I don't know what is up with this new trend that "new better interfaces" means tons of bland grey monotone boxes... what is this, the 90s?

Let's never forget the colourful X-Com interface. :D

Yeah I think the old theme looked better as well.  Another reason to switch to GitHub :)

Something that is even worse than the new lay-out: everytime I click something the page loads again and my browser hangs for about 30 seconds before the google ads are loaded and I can continue... the site is totally unworkable for me now  :(

It's suppose to be "clean/sterile", but retaining a "3D effect"... because everybody knows if you're not 3D, your 1 dimension behind the rest

You can't really go that far if you only have a strict 256 range of paletted colors even by weird code switching acrobatics.
2011 and counting. We've got the technology, we've got the skills...
The will might be missing though.
Design is a choice after all.

I think the biggest offender of "grey grey grey" is Adobe. Just look at the difference between these Flash screenshots.

Old:

Well, colors have their meanings.

Grey means neutrality, security, reliability, maturity, intelligence, modesty.
Blue (which is the only color you see in the previous screenshot) means  trust, loyalty, wisdom, confidence, intelligence, faith, and truth.

That's why office applications will be in grey, with a touch of blue sometimes (but that seems to tone down).

Other colors you'll see almost never in business applications (red:danger/emotion, yellow:joy/creativity, green:health/fertility)

I guess with the recent problems of security SF had, they wanted to profile them more in that grey, secure, reliable, mature, neutral color.

Daiky, what does it mean when I have the Black theme in my Office 2007 at work?  ;D
