Title: Making the alien mindprobe useful for the aliens?
Post by: kharille on July 19, 2013, 02:34:30 am
Is there something we can do that might make the mindprobe useful to the aliens?  Maybe extend their sight range to 25 squares maybe?  Just thinking of how we might make this item useful for the aliens who have it.

well - one obvious use is to mark which of the XCom soldiers have exhausted reaction fire and allow the AI to ignore them for purposes of taking cover.

I can think of a bunch of other stuff - but that's probably the biggest and easiest.

Next is probably - focus fire on the guy that's holding a primed grenade and standing next to all those other guys.
That seems a little advanced...

It'd be really cool to make the aliens have an (increased?) element of randomness to their estimations of the player's value when they don't have a conscious alien with a mindprobe. So essentially they'd have better data, and thus seem slightly "smarter" while their proby aliens were still up, and when you knock out a mind probe, their AI gets a bit fuzzier, because they don't have their commander whispering your secrets to them through the psionic link. :)
