Title: Setting up test-battles - can't find what I'm looking for
Post by: Xilmi on May 12, 2023, 12:12:07 pm
I wanted to set up a rather specific test-battle in XCF.
One that is like the "Strange Lifeforms"-missions where you spawn in a biome of your choice with your craft, no enemy crafts or buildings and then just a whole lot of the creatures of my choice.

I was looking at the super excessive-list of mission-types but couldn't find the one that is like this.

Can anyone tell me what I should be looking for in the mission-type list?

Do the creatures have to have the possibility of being armed? I don't think there are many (any?) missions with cultists or other armed enemies without some sort of building equivalent.

Otherwise, Exobiological Contamination Environmental Alert (there are versions with varied numbers of enemies) or Zombie Infestation, probably.

Environmental alert I guess, with all its variations.

Yeah, or Monster Hunt, if you don't need weapons.

Monster hunt is Environmental Alert.

I actually meant Environmental Alert myself, but upon reflection both that and Zombie infestations have the drawback that the terrain is sourced from the globe, and thus you can't set it yourself in quick battles. Environmental Alerts also have very low enemy variety due to most cryptid species having only one or two different units.

Exobiological Contamination at least has a little bit of user-specifiable terrain variety, and can accommodate a range of units. OTOH, these might have enemies and also civilians with guns.

Personally, I'd set up my own testing mission for this, using a Battleship or similar as a base and deleting the UFO (and the plasma guns, if needed).

Yeah, I tried using "Environmental Alert" but I can't choose the biome. It always puts me on the moon. :(

How do I "delete the UFO" when setting it up with a battleship?

Edit: Oh wait, for some reason there is no battleship despite me not doing anything about that.

Ah, right; I've forgotten that these missions work on a global script now (the terrain is taken from the globe).

I don't think I have a mission where the terrain is right and also there's no building/UFO. :(
