Title: Autopsies, the cold, stiff truth
Post by: tr0phygh0ul on August 22, 2021, 04:39:33 am
Hello, I'm new to the forum and OldCom in general.  :P

I've been meaning to ask if autopsies did anything other than unlocking lore and maybe a tip on how to do deal with that alien. I've seen some people online say once you do it, you increase the damage dealt to that specific type because you "learned" where its vital organs are, but it is never mentioned in the manual and such so it could be just a rumor. I know some autopsies(ie: Deep Ones) in TFTD unlock certain research topics.

So does slicing and playing with greys's insides do anything meaningful?

Not in original Xcom and not in OpenXcom. I'm not entirely sure though, whether it unlocks some things in TFTD. In UFO defense it never did. Was just good for polishing your score a bit.

In Terror from the Deep you can unlock the melee weapons by doing some of the autopsies (Calcinite and Gillman).

It generally just unlocks research or UFOPedia projects, and it's hard to mod it to do anything else. But perhaps somewhere out there someone scripted it to increase damage against them. I know a lot of folks in the community have been interested in the idea.
