I'm writing about that game because probably you haven't heard about it.
I've played it a bit long time ago. It reminded me a bit xcom.
Quoting wikipedia:
Spellcross: The Last Battle (Spellcross: Ostatnia bitwa in Polish; Spellcross: Poslední bitva in Czech) is a turn-based DOS strategy game for the PC, developed by a slovak company Cauldron HQ and published by SCi in 1997/1998. For a variety of reasons (notably, a relatively nonexistent marketing budget and the emergence of games dominated by the demands of 3D-graphics cards), unfortunately for its designers, the game had little mass appeal, sold poorly, and has remained obscure.
In Spellcross, a contemporary Earth military fights for survival against an extradimensional invasion of orcs, undead, harpies and other fantastical creatures.

I've played it also. It had quite good story. Gameplay was very similar to Xcom - turn-based tactical game with short periods of strategy. It was fun :)

Yeah, played it some years back. I liked it, but at the time it seemed too hard for me, so I never got around to finish it.
Still, a solid game. Give it a go if you find it and have time to spare.

It's one of those fun games not many ppl know. I remember playing it a lot. It's gets really, REALLY hard later on. :P
I liked the Medieval/Fantasy/Modern remix in there. A Spellcross mod for OpenXcom would be awesome. Lolz.

I might have to try this out if I can find it.

Holy shit I want this game! Do they have an ENG version? Where can I find it? Anyone know? I'm going to start searching for it. Thanks michal ;)

There is an English version. I've played it.
Try searching the web. You might find a site that still sells it.
