I recently got TFTD after enjoying playing UFO on OpenXCom and wanting a new experience. I checked the tutorials and switched to TFTD from the mod screen, and that made the game crash. Now every time I launch OpenXCom, it tells me it can't load the game, says there's something wrong with "geodata/world.dat", says something about a "log file" and then just closes itself. I can't even play UFO now because it doesn't even let me get to the main screen.
I've checked the files and "geodata/world.dat" seems to be in the right place. Can anyone help me? I have no programming skills, I can't seem to make it work.

1/ please find a file called openxcom.log and attach it here so that we can have a look at the problem
2/ if you want to switch back to UFO, you can find and delete a file called options.cfg ... that deletes and resets all settings and should start UFO next time you start the game
If you're on Windows, both files are most likely located in your "Documents" folder in the "OpenXcom" subfolder

Hi Meridian,
After looking through my Openxcom folder, I've been unable to find any files with those names.
Can you help me with this?
-
Have you tried the "Documents" folder as suggested above?
-
I've been searching through my OpenXCom folders, but I cannot find a "Documents" folder.

attached

Thanks for the screenshot, it's very helpful. But I don't have any LOG files in that folder.
-
What do you have there then?
-
I have this txt. document.
-
That is the log file.
There should be one more file on the same place called "options.cfg" or maybe just "options"... if you delete that, the game should reset itself to UFO.
If not, then just uninstall and delete everything and try from the beginning.
-
Okay, I'll try it. Thanks for the help.
-
Well, I can play UFO OpenXCom again, but I'm uncertain of whether or not TFTD will work.
-
Alright, I've just tried it. It appears that TFTD continues to crash my copy. I have included log file.
-
Try a different copy of TFTD. Sometimes it helps, especially if your version has files missing.
-
I've installed TFTD from Steam, and upon checking the files I found it had everything needed, yet it still won't work. I don't understand what you mean by "a different copy", this is the only one I purchased.
-
Don't worry, Steam version works just fine.
Can you give us a screenshot of where did you copy those files?
-
There is the DOS version, the Window version.. different version of TFTD from the past. Might be your TFTD have a file corruption in its globe.dat
-
I'm not sure how to make a screenshot.
-
You tried a different copy? Just in case?
-
use the snipping tool, it's part of windows
-
Okay, I'll try and get a screenshot.
-
Okay, I hope this will at least be of some use.
-
Yes, it is useful.
You should not put the entire steam directory into openxcom/TFTD.
Only selected sub-directories should be used, as written in the README file.
-
Here. This is what it should look like.
-
Thanks. I'll try rewriting the folder like in the image and see if it works.
-
Hey, sorry to resurrect this old thread, but I have recently tried the program again with the edits you suggested. Still no progress.
-
saying it doesn't work doesn't help.
what's the error message?
share a screenshot of the folder structure...
give us something to work with...
-
Would like to apologise yet again for a late reply. I have attached a screenshot of the error message.
-
I'd just like to say that I'm very grateful for you guys helping me. Thanks. :)
-
The TFTD files were not found.
Most likely you have copied them in a wrong location.
-
I only copied into the TFD folder that came with my OpenXCom download.
-
can you show the content of that folder?
-
Here you go.
-
Yes, this is wrong... as the first screenshot shows.
There is an extra "TFD" folder, which does not belong there.
Move the stuff from "TFD" folder one folder above (to "TFTD" folder).

Thanks for the help. Terror from the Deep works for me now. :)
