Hi all,
my Area 51 LP is nearing completion (in 2-4 weeks)... so I'd like to gather some feedback on what would you like to see next (if anything)?
So far I've played
- OG xcom
- OG tftd
- OpenXcom xcom
- OpenXcom final mod pack
- OXCE/OXCE+ piratez
- OXCE+ area 51 (in progress)
Both FMP and PirateZ have evolved enough over the years to warrant a new campaign, but new mods and ideas are also welcome.
My secret tip would be TWoTS... but I'll let you decide.
PS: please don't write more than 2 suggestions per post... I am aware of the available mods and TCs, I just need help selecting one.
-
Xeno Operations could do with some more airtime if you're feeling like more vanilla-plus, I've even some OXCE+ additions to it if you want.
I'd recommend 40k since I've been working on it, but bulletdesigner is going to do some extensive changes to the tech tree soon.
-
After Area 51, FMP might kinda feel like more of the same.
My top two votes are TWoTS because TftD has a close place in my heart. Otherwise, X-PirateZ, Season Two leads to much more nuanced gameplay imo, and I'd very much enjoy it.

I would like to see a Warhammer 40K LP. Not sure if it is a valid suggestion, since it's not on your list, but it's an excellent mod and I don't think anyone has played it publicly.
If not that, I would like another Piratez LP - it is very different now from the previous campaign.
-
I believe TWoTS would be an excellent choice.
Judging from you list TFTD is rather underrepresented.
-
I am interested in From the Apocalypse and XOps, but TWoTS also sounds good to get some TFTD in there.
-
My vote would be for twots.
-
40k one seems super fun.
Xops is awesome, but sadly is not in active development.
-
TWoTS won.
LP starts in 3-4 weeks.
I need a few volunteers (=fish food) for the first few episodes, life expectancy zero.
PS: after years of playing Superhuman, I am switching to Veteran... Superhuman gives too much loot and makes the economy way too easy... I will try if decreasing amount of enemies helps balancing it a little (in favor of the aliens of course).

I'll be the first on the door, respawnable, but always first to go

Count me in as MASTER BLASTER.

Sign me up! Clones are fine, can't wait to shoot (or stab/stun/blow up) some aliens.

Sign me up! When do I get my free gum?

I've just convinced my alter ego "H2dO" to enlist in case more fishfood is needed.
If that name does not work lorewise (s)he is also known as "Plank ton".

Can I be a Medic again? I have not finished viewing Area 51 (I'm like halfway), but if possible, I would like to cure people again.
-
Here we go again...
-
I'm already three episodes into the series on YouTube.
Suddenly it sank in. I've not even signed up, yet. What a terrible mistake. Forgetting to sign up for glory once again. :o
Better late than never.
In-game name: Kjotleik
Role: Anything the commander needs (but I do love me a nice big BOOM on occasion).
Aggressiveness: Kjotleik will always volunteer for the most dangerous missions without hesitation. No guts, no glory. ;D

Watching video 10 Hallucinoids.
I think the no-LOS penalty is calculated tile by tile, so with large creatures you can actually get the no-LOS penalty on the parts of them that you don't see (the game tells your agent CAN see the alien but in truth you actually see only part of it).
This is the case of the Hallucinoid in your video: if you look at minute 6:50 you aim on all its 4 parts and one part, the one closer to the flare (north-east), doesn't get the penalty; that part is the one you agent can see.
In general the accuracy suddenly rises near the flares because it grants you a "bubble" of LOS... maybe even beyond the agent sight range?
You probably already noticed this.

I wanted to continue this weekend, but I got sick.
So hopefully next weekend... if I manage to get rid of this stupid flu.

Get better soon.

Maybe i dont understand something, but how you can outrun fighter with barracuda?
The fighter have speed of 2700, while barracuda only 2400.
-
You cannot outrun them, they will eventually catch you.
But the speed difference is quite small, so it takes a long time for them to catch you.
On the picture below, there's the distance between Barracuda and the Base (green) and Barracuda and the Alien Sub (pink).
The distance is (very roughly) the same... which means the alien sub would need to be (very roughly) twice as fast as the barracuda to catch it before it can land in the base.
You can see here for example that the alien sub is shortening the distance only very slowly: https://youtu.be/HCbj2AUgMLg?t=1828
PS: to give you an exaggerated example: let's have two cars: one going at 99 km/h, second going at 100 km/h. if the initial distance between them is 100 kilometers, the second car will catch the first one after 24 hours :)
-
Ok, got it. Hmm... should i buff fighter speed?

Decision is yours.
If it was my mod, I would make the UFO about 50% faster than the xcom crafts it is supposed to catch.
This way if the craft starts running immediately, the UFO will catch up latest after the distance equal to 3x its radar range.
As a player, I am happy with the current situation :P
