Some of you may be a retro gamer like myself.
Having played countless hours of Xcom back in the day on a old DOS computer, I might be dating myself ::)
Anyhow I was wondering if there are any others here who have played Master of Magic?
In my opinion, MoM is to the fantasy strategy genre just like Xcom is to the scify strategy genre.
I have seen others try to get a community going to resurrect the game but it was not as successful as this one was.
Anyone know of any strong community supporting the game?
FYI the game can be bought for a few dollars on gog.com

Yes MOM is one of the great old classics. :D
There seem to be some modding going on in the realms beyond forums:

I tried out the "Caster of Magic" mod, which I found really interesting.

Master of Magic was one of my favourite games ever. It wasn't balanced too well, but I never cared! The game was so full of content, you could build and do so much! It was a very innovative, but also quite straightforward game.
I actually spent a looooong time with Dioxine designing a "MoM 2.0", which kind of tells how important it was for us - but mostly me, I think.
And thanks for the link, Clownagent!

Most civ based games are dumbed down compared to this game.
It's kinda like comparing Xcom to Xcom 2.

Damned fun game, and I love the detail, there was so many options, like Civ 1 but with multiple races and uniteds. So many functions and I live the summoning animations. Also those terrain bonuses and transmutation of resources… so much in that game....

I played MoM too. ::)
I liked it very much. :'(

I very like MoM, its something like mix of MoO2 and Civ in fantasy settings.

Oh, yes, and there are still people working on it - try the insecticide patch!

MoM is a diamong in rough, I played wasted craptonnes of time in that game years ago. A lot of wannabe spiritual succesors came out, not one really nailed it (though Fallen Enchantress comes quite close)

Master of Magic is one of my favorite 4X. I considered remaking it at one point as well: https://i.imgur.com/UMbbCLD.gifv

I'm glad you chose X-Com instead... But that wouldn't have been a bad decision either!

Most advanced open source version is available at https://sourceforge.net/projects/momime/ (https://sourceforge.net/projects/momime/), written in java. It implements a few expanded ideas: larger maps, more enemies, more customization, some form of multiplayer. Developer is called Implode.

Played it few times almost 10 years ago. This game was a sort of "Civilization with Magic" and I found it really funny and enjoyable. I remember beating most low-tier NPC monsters with halfling slingers ;D
