Hello,
You have max 2 votes, use them wisely ;)
UFO2000 isn't officially dead, but it's development is almost non existent, so i've also added it here.
If you would like to see other projects in this poll, suggest them.
-
As long as Openxcom does not end up on that list i will be happy :)
-
I was wondering if someone will still remember one of old projects, like EDF ;)
-
talking about dead projects, a link to UFO: Cydonia's Fall is still on openxcom.org's main page, although it's a dead link, it might be interesting to keep dead projects in that list, but with a Strikethrough effect ? :)

Yes, I remember EDF project. EDF stands for Earth Defense Force. Right?

UFO: Cydonia's Fall
Yes, I agree and please do the same for UFO 2012 project.
Besides, I suggest to add a link for the Homepage of Xcom: Enemy Unknown.
-
Yeah, EDF is Earth Defense Force - it was probably one of first remake projects.
-
Damn I still remember EDF, nothing to show but they had some really cool ideas. I'll have to dig up that website again for inspiration. :)
Personally my most regretted projects are Project Xenocide, because it was really cool and big and I was in it :P and UFO: The Two Sides, it was just so close...

UFO: Cydonia's Fall
If I add every dead project the Links are gonna become bigger than the page. :P I was considering having a dedicated Links page to keep everything nice and descriptive, but having Links on the frontpage gives them a lot more exposure and pageviews. Maybe shove everything in Links but still keep highlighted active projects in the frontpage? Hmm decisions decisions...
-
Frontpage - active, developed project. Dedicated site - all links.

I just noticed I didn't vote yet :p
Well, my vote goes to Cydonia's Fall... The concept art, 3D models and music were very promising. I applied as a programmer to work for that project, but never got a reply. That's where I began at openxcom.

+1 :)

Can we just get OpenXcom working without bugs first?! I'm really having withdrawal pangs. :o
-
TTS was the only remake I ever tested/played. So obviously that's the one I miss most.
However they weren't going for a Cydonia ending (last I was on their forums anyways), so this project looks even better =)
-
mb we should add X-COM Origin, looks like they died too :s
-
They have some activity on forum - but it's russian, so i don't know what happens ;) Maybe someone asked if project died ;)

https://ufo.freelanzer.com/ (https://ufo.freelanzer.com/)
I've been checking this URL everyday for 6 months to see if they ever come back... It still says "New site coming when ready"... No change though ;_;
-
As the Ufo: The Two Sides has gotten the most votes so far. I'm making a game on a similar premise here (https://openxcom.org/forum/index.php/topic,669.0.html), in case anybody is interested in helping out.

I am interested in playing it :P
shame your going 3d , otherwise it could be built as a separate version of Openxcom ,Still i am really hoping this gets going.
-
BTW, anyone knows *why* TTS was canned in the first place ?
All I know is that they had just published v0.99 or something, then nothing for a while, then a message saying they where finished.
... odd.
-
I sent the guy a message via IndieDB (or ModDB), and he responded
I actually am not part of the development team for The Two Sides. They decided to cancel the project due to legal reasons, though. They weren't being prosecuted, but they decided it wasn't legally sound enough to continue.
-
I think they got a message from someone because of copyright or something. I forgot the details, but the short version they ran into legal trouble.
As far as I remember it was very very minor stuff but they paniced and scraped the whole thing.
-
Hummm... Alright, thanks !
-
No, they didn't ran into legal trouble.
They closed TTS, because they started to work on other commercial, indie games. And they decided to shut down TTS before someone contacted them. When they were just bunch of guys making freeware fan game, they felt safe. But after going commercial, they started to fear some legal actions.
-
Pity they didn't make their code-base public.
I'm quite sure others would have stepped in to continue on with it's development.
-
People are so greedy, even on code sharing.
-
I think most people are just ashamed of their own code and would rather not share. :P (especially when you're a lone coder so you get to code as ugly as you want)
-
My friend is a RL programmer and it isn't shame, but he has the same cocky/protective attitude for his code. :o
IMHO it has something to do with ppl stealing your work and using it for their own resumé or w/e. ;D

tts was the best remake for me.
I realy like the hd sprites. I hope there will be a HD mod for openxcom soon :)

Me too ;)
-
Every time someone talks about HD sprites , we descend into a argument about copyright and the member is never heard from again.
-
lol
why is HD a copyright problem?
anyway, maybe a anon modder will release a HD pack :P
btw. is it possible to extract the sprites from tts? there is a folder with graphics_new^^
-
HD is a copyright problem because it is derivative works - ie, not original content, but based on other copyright material. Though to be fair, I think this is where things start to get a bit hazy with what is "original".
Yes, there's an extractor.jar application with UFO:TTS to get bitmaps of all the data

Extractor extracts graphic from original files and save them as bitmaps. As for graphics_new it contains hd, remade graphics.
-
HD graphics could be possible if there will be other graphics at all. But how one isometric brick wall can be not derivative of another isometric brick wall? Simple, they are all "not derivative" by default. There are little in isometric graphics that can be subject of copyright.

i just started looking around for stuff like this. so i lucked out having found OpenXcom Thumbs up for Supsuper! still i regret the every one that dit not make it. TTS looks great! found a downlowd (not finished) really wanted to have seen it complete.
