Just something small I am working on It changes the Chryssalid into something slightly more Xenomorph looking. The magic word being slightly.
Here the first version. I will keep on updating this as I make progress.
-
Here version 2, now with bigger teeth. Not sure if I like it... ;)
-
If you would use Extended then you could add acid splash after death.
-
Good idea. And it needs a better sound, too.... :)

Alright, here version 3, I changed the teeth again and now I am content with them. I also edited the eye area more, so that it looks as blind as the Xenomorph Aliens. I also added a small tail. However I tried to stay within the slightly cartoonish style of XCom so the tail will not be as pronounced as it could be.
All it needs now is some nice Aliens sounds (Aggro/move/death)... :)

more screenies.
Found one freeware sound: https://www.freesound.org/people/mlestn1/sounds/83238/

Also edited the ufopedia pics to reflect the changes I made to the battlesprite. I will try to recolor them as well, not sure if the color pallette allows it.
edit: Nope, the color pallette does not have a true dark grey/black.

That looks cool :) Although the tail looks a bit stiff to me. Could work as an upgraded/tweaked chryssalid (lower aggression and more intelligence, so more ambushy? With higher night vision range?)
You know.. those teeth on the chryssalid always bothered me.. For such a fearsome creature, it has really stupid cartoon smile.. even human teeth look more threatening. We need Bloax to look into that and give them a proper fearsome jaw!

Yes, the ufopaedia teeth are .... well.... very "Rabbity" ;D
Any help is welcome!
About the tail: Well it's short, made of Chitin-like stuff, so it shouldn't be very flexible. I thought about copying the Tasoth tail first, but meeeeeh.... I prefer the way it looks now.

Perhaps Chryssalids have these teeth because they don't need to hunt? Maybe they get all the energy via Alien Food and store great quantities of it as Elerium in their bloodlines? After all it's impossible to do what Chryssalids do without obscene amounts of biological energy, waaaay more than anything we know on Earth.
So my theory is, Chryssalids don't need sharp teeth. Actually they don't really need teeth at all, and what we see is a remnant from some earlier form.

Interesting! They could have evolved as a rodent/crab-like thing that feeds on some weird super high energy food to pack it into their eggs for the rapid growth of their progeny when finally able to find organic life to impregnate. Could be they're not predators, just energy gatherers and over-eager impregnaters!

Well, yes, good thoughts.
Still, I need those Ufopaedia teeth to better fit the Xeno/Xcom-morph battlesprite. I am content with the unit look itself now, but those rabbit teeth...
I tried several times to improve them, but... sigh, I am not very good at this.
There, I said it.
So if anyone feels up to it, please? 8)
