I happen to like narrative LPs, and I also like the Final ModPack. So let's do both, on the Android version!
SPECIFICS:
-Android Port
-Final Mod Pack
-Veteran Difficulty
-Ironman play style
-Fighter Transports (to simulate pilots)
I'll be doing this as a screenshot LP because this way you get to see my terrible thoughts, and I'm kinda insecure about my voice :'(
I'll be taking soldier names, personalities, weapon requests and research requests. Need at least 8 soldiers to actually get this off the ground. Should you be KIA, gimme a new soldier profile if you like and you'll have another one.
edit: Current Roster, in no specific order
Dioxine
Meridian
Nadir
Audric
Ivan Dogovich
Conrad Mazian
Liberation
also need interceptor pilots but they're relatively unimportant
-
Soldier name: Meridian
Personality: pyromaniac
Weapon: Flamethrower and grenades
Skills: strength > 30, reactions > 45
Position in the flying coffin: 3rd row on the left
-
Want a hazmat suit to go with der Flammenwerfer? :3
-
Nein, hazmat suits are for US government guys... that kind which always dies in B-movies... pyromaniacs only need a little bit of luck.
-
Go bare-chested! :)
I had this idea of "all guys mod", replacing the female soldiers with extra 4 male soldiers (mugs taken from TFTD) which seems perfect for LP's where 100% of the crew seems male anyways... :)
-
The vanilla way opens people up to questioning their gender, which is always funny ;D
I'll be keeping the Smurfette behaviour because I intend to be part of our ragtag crew :P
-
Soldier name: Audric if male, Andra if female
Personality: "white knight" teammate.
Weapon: No specialty, gladly picks what the team needs most. Medikit if available.
Skills: Let the random number generator decide.
Position in the flying coffin: I get a better view in the front rows.
-
Soldier name: Nadir
Personality: Cold. Xenocidal.
Weapon: Pistol and knife
Skills: Questionable at best
Position in the flying coffin: Front
-
Soldier name: Dioxine
Personality: Assassin, Hedonist, Social
Weapon: Rifle/Pistol + Shotgun, likes single shots
Skills: High Firing, Bravery. Low Str
Position in the flying coffin: Middle
Research preferred: Anything Raw Damage!
-
Soldier name: Ivan Dogovich
Personality: Explosive Freak - Clumsy/ Prone to "Ivan Moments"
Weapon: Grenades, Grenades, and Pistols ( When small launchers and Elerium Bombs come along... just call me "splodey" ;) )
Skills: No skills needed. Pull the pin, close your eyes, and throw!
Position in the flying coffin: I'll take the smoke for the Ramp, and all the great enemy fire!
Research preferred: Alien Grenades and Elerium Bombs
-
Just three more to get it started, but with my
tactics roughly on par with a concussed Sailor Moon villain unconventional methods, replacements will always be needed and as such I'll be taking soldiers until the campaign ends, one way or another.
-
I'll get in on this!
Soldier name: Conrad Mazian
Personality: Quiet but will do what needs doing to get the job done.
Weapon: Good ole rifles of all flavors!
Skills: Whatever the RNG God sees fit!
Position: The back. Hey, I want to at least be one of the last to die!
-
Two choices of rifle, Assault Rifle or vanilla Rifle.
-
Just one slot remains to be filled in the flying coffin before I kick off the narrative :)
Edit: Two slots. My counting skills never fail to impress, eh?
-
I like vanilla ice cream, so lets go with the vanilla rifle.
-
Count me in
Soldier name: Liberation
Personality: treacherous, stands behind others to take cover, the last in, the first out if its trouble
Weapon: laser rifle or normal
Skills: reasonable shot, staying out of harms way, while looking heroic
Position not the front 4 8)
-
(Figure I may as well get the ball rolling on the plot while waiting for more troops)
BEGIN RECORDING.
Today is January 1st, 1999. And we have concrete proof that we are not alone.
Well...
The proof could probably melt concrete, anyway.
I am High Commander Samantha Frost. I am in overall command of the eXtraterrestrial COMbat unit - X-COM. The governments of the world have been forced to acknowledge that there is such a this as an extraterrestrial. And they do not come in peace.
X-COM was formed to fight these invaders, and apparently I'm the only one they deem worthy of overseeing the organisation. Why? I don't know. Until now I've never believed in aliens, or even considered the possibility...
I'm getting off-track.
Our headquarters is Alpha Site (see Attachments 1 and 2). It houses our three Interceptor warplanes, for engaging UFOs, and our Skyranger troop transport (see Attachment 3). I guess I'll cut it off here. Not much else to say.
END RECORDING
-
BEGIN RECORDING.
January 2nd, 1999. One of our operatives, a certain Mr. Meridian, has repeatedly bugged the armourer, Boris, demanding that an incendiary option be made available.
Meridian, we ordered this just for you. (See Attachment 4)
Not much else going on. I set our staff of exactly ten scientists to work on developing some new firearms.
Other than that, a quiet day.
END RECORDING
-
Soldier name: Draco Griffin
Personality: Sentinel, methodical
Weapon: Sniper Rifle
Skills: RNG
Position in the flying coffin: Back
-
(yay a full crew :3)
BEGIN RECORDING.
January 5th, 1999. We detected our first UFO this morning, right at the edge of our radar range, but the damn thing bugged out before the Interceptor got near it.
Meridian's flamethrower finally came in, but now he keeps it with him around the base and nobody will go near him. *sigh* In other news, I ordered some armoured vests that just came in, and I issued a notice saying that the soldiers who want one can have one, as long as they're aware of how restrictive and heavy those things are.
Beyond that we're waiting for the first ground op. Could be any minute now.
Hm.
Maybe I should order a HWP. I'll ask the troops to vote on it. Minigun, rocket or cannon?
END RECORDING
-
Mini gun tank! Because: Minigun! :D
Cheers, Ivan :D
-
BEGIN RECORDING.
Making this quick. A UFO just touched down in some farmland. The troops are on their way now.
END RECORDING.
I can split each mission into several posts, allowing for a lot more screenshots, paired with soldier dialogue, or I can only post screenshots of significant occurrences, with the mission itself summed up by Frost's commentary. Which one's preferable?
-
Methinks more content is always better, naturally :)
-
Moar content means moar wait time, but I'll do my best to prevent The Update Where Things Happen from becoming the
TFTD Duke Nukem Forever of LPs :P
mainly because im way too lazy to find an image hosting site so I can put the screenies in the post body
-
Is this dead? Would be a shame, I am very interested in this LP!
-
Same here.

-
This one's not dead yet :)
Don't worry, you guys'll be seeing an update before the month is out ;)
feel free to kill me if I GabeN on that
-
I'll join if needed:
Soldier name: Third Curry
Personality: Largely apathetic and occasionally sarcastic; only joined due to poor job market; prefers breaching UFOs over open field fighting
Weapon: Melee weapons, short range guns, likes armor
Skills: Very high health, good melee accuracy and bravery, probably lousy firing and throwing accuracy
Position in the flying coffin: Doesn't matter
-
OK, I want in too!
Soldier name: Shiomura Kamina
Personality: Choleric and easily irritated by ineptness. Hot-blooded, but usually has some simple plan to follow. Somewhat prefers mid-to-close combat weapons (assault rifles, shotguns, flamethrowers), but it's not a strong preference. Will train rookies, because "they need to be taught properly". Has a secret weed plantation behind the base. Absolutely hates weapon maintenance.
-
I know getting too eloquent can kill such an LP, but not neccesarily. I've once managed (with a big help from another player, and some help from others, including Solarius) to keep a very literate "LP" of a Multiplayer Civ game that went for 2 years or so... Have faith in yourself, Nadir!
-
Yes, this is a post where I'll be GabeN'ing.
Life got in the way here, or there'd be an update by now. I don't know how much longer it'll be a problem. The life or death of the LP is directly tied to mine, mind you. So I highly doubt you won't eventually see Cydonia.
But by the time you do, we'll already have TFTD.
It's a mathematical certainty.

Yes, this is a post where I'll be GabeN'ing.
