Hello there,
There always was a craft in the game which was never really used, the Lightning.
I would like to attempt a remodel of it for the Battlescape map so that in can carry 2 HWP's and 10 Soldiers.
Which tools are there for doing that? (I am on Linux).
-
I was often using Lightning. It's very useful since have automatically closing doors, thus pretty effective for keeping your soldiers alive for first N turns. And having no place for HWP is the drawback of using otherwise beneficial design + ability to attack flying objects (All of these are described in the ufopedia article of the Lightning).
There's no need to touch it.
-
It can't transport HWP's so i usually never use it.
But i would like to attempt to remodel it as a mod.
So that it can have tanks ^^

It will become imbalanced if you add HWP carrying ability to it.
It's pretty useful without HWPs.
There are mods for interceptor and firestorm as battlescape crafts. Perhaps you should look there?
As for tools - Map editor will be enough (there's a thread with latest version link). No need to alter MCDs.

There are no native tools for Linux. You'll have to use wine.

I would limit it's HWP carry capacity to 2.
The Skyranger can carry up to 14 Soldiers, or 10 Soldiers 1 HWP, 6 Soldiers and 2 HWP, or 2 Soldiers and 3 HWP.
Would be cool if the Lightning could carry the following: 16 Soldiers, or 12 Soldiers 1 HWP, or 8 Soldiers 2 HWP.
So it would be an improvement over the Skyranger in Carry capacity by 2 spots. Despite the ability to arm it and the faster deployment of course.

Thanks for the Link i will play a little bit arround with this tool.
Are there any introductions to modelling somewhere?
The Ruleset Reference is cool for modding :)

Still, better not to touch vanilla crafts. If you really want - you can add another one, something like Lightning2.0.

Yeah i was intending to make a mod out of it :)
And btw i was just trying around with the editor you posted me and wine is no good, guess i give it a try in win7 in virtualbox @ home :>

I can't say for Map Editor. But if you would need to edit MCDs/PCKs, you can use my MCDEdit (https://www.ufopaedia.org/index.php?title=MCDEdit). It works with wine pretty nicely.

something like this ? All x-com hybrid crafts.
personally i would leave vanilla crafts without changes but i made some tweaks to crafts made by others

I really like the second model, with the empty space and the 2 Front Door + Ramp
Would be optimal for what i had in mind, tank carry capability for the Lightning.
Could you provide me with the MAP File?
