Title: UFO Classes(Automatic soldier renaming) + More UFOextender features
Post by: Taberone on May 31, 2014, 12:21:37 am
UFO Classes auto-renames soldiers based on statistics. It can be compared to XcomUtil statstrings, except(in my opinion) easier to read. "Classes" assigned to soldiers include Scout, Shock, Sniper, Medic, and so on.
https://www.ufopaedia.org/index.php?title=User:Necuno Contains info about this.

UFOExtender features I would like to see:
Weaker Sectoids(In terms of weaponry)
No Score Game Over
UFOExtender Heavy Laser
Big Brother(See entire map)
Alien Pets(Control aliens. Useful for a narrative Lets Play, I guess.)

I'd love to see it implemented, though I'd prefer to keep the full names.

You can make your own statstrings (https://www.ufopaedia.org/index.php?title=Ruleset_Reference_(OpenXcom)#StatStrings), you don't need to use the stock ones.

In past at 2007 on Windows Mobile there was project Pocket UFO (last version is 1.26)
That was clone of UFO: EU, with some good features.

One of the features was classes which describes soldiers regard their stats.
Main classes were:

sniper / psi / gunman

But game not used only 1 icon, game used 2 icons for description of the classes:
sniper + sniper
sniper + psi
psi + psi
psi + gun
gun+gun

And here is how that was look like (in that exapmple psi+psi):

Maybe it is better use these icons instead of "/Snpr", "/w" etc?

I guess that is something that could be added for higher-resolution versions, but we already have pretty little space right now... I wouldn't know where to put several icons (unless each icon is something like 5x5 pixels, making it unrecognizable... ;) )

For list of soldiers 5x5... true, maybe prints are still good. But how about this? ;)

Driving people not to move away from vanilla sprite is a noble cause :)

True... I just put these icons over the screenshot. Probably it will be look a bit different, not like after using original palette...
