Title: Carrying downed squadmate to the Skyranger won't save her?
Post by: Quixote on January 07, 2014, 11:42:54 pm
I just had a very dramatic battle where I lost more than half the squad within 3 turns.. will spare you the details, but it involves landing at a terror site next to a Cyberdisc, running out to knock it down with a stun rod.. then finding another disc hovering just behind the first one.

Anyway, the question is: My heroic captain managed to pick up a wounded squadmate, then run up the ramp to the Skyranger in the last moments, but when I returned to base, that squadmember was listed as dead.

Did she die in transit, or does the game fail to account for wounded squaddies at dustoff?

I thought this was not an issue. once you brought the unit back into the ship did you put hte unit on the floor or kept in in the backpack? as far as i know all units inside the skyranger will be saved.

Neither floor nor backpack .. was holding the unconscious person in the left hand slot. Maybe that's why?

I am not sure, maybe Warboy or Sup could give a better answer, but i thought so long as they are in the skyranger they will be saved no matter where, maybe the system doesn't account properly for items (live bodies) in the hand and considers them just as a corpse.

Yes that is also my theory, too bad I don't have a savegame to submit for testing it..

I've tested (it's easy to stun your own teammates in any mission start), there are actually two bugs:
1) When you click Abort, unconscious units are not counted "in Exit area" nor "outside Exit area".
2) When you confirm, characters on ground ARE successfully extracted, but anywhere in the inventory of another soldier : they're not.

Imagine stuffing your unconscious comrade in your backpack to carry him to safety, fly home and get some good rest. You recover and proceed with your duties, but after a couple of days your roommates start to complain about a strange odor coming from the backpack you left in a corner.
Damn - forgot something... :o

Just tested the fate of unconscious team-members with current build 2014_01_20_1603.
Units in inventory and inside craft are recovered, but those outside are lost without warning. I think this should be shown in the abort-screen.

I guess warboy fixed it then.. as I'm quite sure she was in inventory as I hit liftoff.

Edit: Just checked the changelog:

account for carried comrades at debriefing.

turns out i forgot to include this in debriefing, having only applied it to
units actually reviving from unconsciousness.

Seems I contributed a tiny bit to the project with my bug report, yay :)
