Hey Xcom-fans
I am playing OpenXcom and the aliens have attacked my base. It's been around 250 turns now, and I just still can't find that last floater - And it's starting to get real annoying! I have had my men stand guard throughout my base while I have had one guy searching the entire place - still no look. Any suggestions/tips as to how I can succeed? It's my first base, so can't really affort to lose it :(
Best regards

One way to fix it is hack savefile and kill last one alien.
-
Soooo, how do I do that? :P
-
find in save file "genUnitType: STR_SNAKEMAN_SOLDIER" (in my case snakemen) and set "health:" to 0, game maybe will not crash ;P
-
find the savefile, which is in you user directory, which is usually in C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\My Documents\OpenXcom\data or C:\Users\<user>\Documents\OpenXcom\data , open it with a text editor, text-search for "genUnitType: STR_FLOATER" and find the one that has "health" higher than 0, change "health" to 0 or, even better, "stunlevel" to something higher than "health".
start OX, load the savegame, hit "end turn"
:)
EDIT: okay, ninja'd by yankes. you get the idea, though :)
-
at least you can say you have more detailed version :>
-
Wohoo thanks a lot, that did the trick! :)

(the other way would be to note the "coordinates" of that last floater and then hunt it down because now you know where it's at. I don't know exactly which directions x and y mean, but I guess it would narrow down the possibilities to two locations, right? :D )
-
x is down right, y is down left, z is up.
0,0,0 is the topmost point of the map, ground floor.

You can also set all the aliens as "visible" and open the minimap.
It will stay like this for one turn, but I don't believe you need more than one :)
