Title: [Suggestion] Deny primed explosives in other inventory slots than hands
Post by: Cooper on January 14, 2025, 09:21:44 pm
Leaving primed grenades/explosives anywhere else than in the inventory than the hands makes maybe not so much sense. By allowing modders to adjust this, balancing a mod would also be easier, as spamming pre-primed grenades sometimes can make things very easy.

I know there is isExplodingInHands, but I think that can be a bit much.

So I would suggest an option to not allow putting primed explosives (or to prime explosives) in certain inventory slots:

invs:
  - id: STR_BELT
    allowPrimed: false  #default is true

Doesn't raise my interest much, to be honest.
But if there's other modders who'd be interested, I guess it's doable.

Just be aware, if it's this easy to take the player's favorite OP pre-primed grenades in all pockets away... it's also this easy for the player to just mod it back and negate all your balancing efforts.

For what it's worth (very little I suppose), as a player I might be interested in playing a major mod such as XCF that has been balanced with this kind of setting. I'd expect a somewhat different gameplay experience compared to the typical settings with full pre-priming.

Though I might point out that there may be different kinds of pre-primed items that you would want to treat differently (for example a flare and a hand grenade/dynamite are probably very different items, with various smoke/dye grenades possibly in the middle). So the actual mechanics might need to be more complicated than this in order to provide the mechanics modders would actually need to make full use of this.

Are landmines also considered as "grenades/explosives" here? Unlike grenades, landmines are supposed to be primed before battle.

People...
I've never pre-primed anything in my life. Please stop creating the impression that it's mandatory.

I have also never pre-primed any proxy grenade in my life... that seems like a very dangerous thing to do.

I do rarely pre-prime normal grenades, maybe one in a hundred.

True, but that can also be said for any nerf. And I don't really mind too much, either.

Yes, I would say.

Well, I proposed this years ago myself, so I'm still for it.

This message has been sponsored by PETA, who's against filling dog inventories with primed mines.

By the way, the original suggestion of handling it would be an absolute pain to mod. I think global setting for explodeinhands (always OR only if in inventory but not in hands) would be enough.
