Title: Do Research Points reset to zero if you cancel research?

I'm sure this will have been asked before (unless it hasn't and I'm an idiot), but I can't think of the right Search terms that don't return 7312249 results
If I reassign scientists on a project to another for that one final push, will the project reset or do we keep the points we've already put into it?

If you leave the project as is and only move all scientists to a different task, the research stays active and you don't lose anything. But if you cancel the project, any progress is lost.
