Hi all,
I'm considering making a new TFTD playthrough of the original game (without any mods, patches or anything... no XcomUtil, no UFOextender, etc.).
For me, it will be a valuable source of OG saves for testing and debugging; for you an opportunity to save humanity (or not).
If you'd like to sign up as cannon fodder (or fish food), feel free to do so in this thread.
The LP will likely start in a couple of weeks.

I remember those lovely days when Gillmen/DeepOnes (also Silacoids, but this is different game) had maximum range of 5 or something like that... Interesting how this will be here.

I like Sabby Shark.. but that 3 kill by the Aquatoid is just unbelievable. I always prime a few grenades in the first turn. Before moving out. Always have a magma explosive prime in each aquanaut, before entering a ufo, that way, if aquanaut dies in case of ambush. He takes out the aliens nearby.
-
Meridian has such a long list of names that he has to use battlescape tactics that ensure sufficient aquanaut rollover :P. Also, not using dye grenades to provide cover is notable and probably intentional - it's somewhat boring and you must give the aliens some edge. On open maps like in the previous episode, not doing so is very risky (need quite a few scouts or fish food to spot the aliens, and those are very likely to be killed).
-
I like to propose some names for future fishfoodies.
- Deep sea Shushi
- Nuclear Ray
- Folder Fish
- Foolish flounder
- Malicious Merman
- Mindbending Mermaid

The most striking difference to OXC appears to be that the AI is much more passive (moves less and tends to set up ambushes more).
Especially in the early missions, the aliens were camping a lot more at certain spots in the escort USO. They didn't necessarily even move at all, making spotting them unreliable with particle disturbance sensor. You could also see this with the terror missions. Instead of moving a lot and going on rampage against civilians (or the X-COM), the aliens kept much more indoors or near to their spawn locations.
With the exception of ambushing, in general OXC behavior seems to result in a deadlier missions. As a consequence, the original AI behavior also likely results in very tedious bughunts (I can certainly remember some OG e.g. shipping line terror missions, alien colony 2nd phase). With OXC AI, the aliens almost never stay completely still (except when panicking) so you can almost always spot the aliens with meticulous usage of motion scanners.
