Title: Can aliens see a X-Com unit's personal light?
Post by: The Martian on December 29, 2021, 09:54:33 am
I noticed that there is a key bind to toggle your soldier's personal lights on/off (Default: 'L')

And personalLight: can be configured on armors: when modding the game.

Do aliens see X-Com units better if they have their lights on or is the lighting only for the benefit of the player?

Yes, aliens can see xcom personal lights.

Not that they need it... they see just as well in the darkness as they see in the daylight.

So by default even though the aliens see better with X-Com's light, they would have seen the unit anyway due to their good night vision meaning there is no change if the light is on or off.

Does that mean that if an alien unit is setup with poor [armors: visibilityAtDark:] but normal [armors: visibilityAtDay:] shutting off X-Com's lights will prevent your units from being detected in the dark?

If not what is the setting I should be looking at to make use of the ability to toggle X-Com's lights for the sake of stealth?

Yes, XPZ use exactly this setup, some "alines" have human night vision and do not see your units until you have some light available,
on other hand default glow is reduce to minimum to be consider "night".
