The snakemen are truly the master race.
they came to mars through time and space.
to wage their war, they built a base.
and hooked a brain up to the place.
the brain cried out with a voice like thunder.
"I AM ALIVE, AND NOW I HUNGER...
WE MUST NOW CONQUER, DEVOUR, PLUNDER!"
the brain then told them what to do;
gather humans, livestock too,
convert their bodies into goo.
store them in some shiny jars,
and bring the bodies back to mars.
place them in the great machine,
and wait until the light turns green.
and when the machine has fallen silent,
within shall lie creatures most violent.
the machine was constructed, the war could begin.
the brain's plan was followed, they were certain they'd win.
the snakemen all rallied, and were ready to fight,
then one voice was heard just before they took flight.
to be continued...
-
"but what if we're wrong?", the soldier did shout,
"suppose for a moment... now hear me out.
if the brain's plan is perfect, then all will be well.
but if it should falter, we all go to hell.
the key to our victory lies in one element
the detail is minor, but i feel it's relevant.
if they should detect us before we succeed,
and none should remain to finish the deed.
what happens then? who will come to our aid?"
the snakemen fell silent, their hopes seemed to fade.
the leaders were sent to the brain's installation,
to resolve the problem, their own reservation.
meanwhile, on earth, a great summit was held
between nations and countries all over the world
the matter at hand - planetary security
enemy - unknown, they may strike from obscurity.
the council agreed that the threat could be serious
and formed a new task force, to fight the mysterious.
the agents were geared with the latest equipment,
though armour was scarce, it was all lost in shipment
the agency grew, as it gathered power
they installed a radar that worked every half hour
a year had passed by, it was now christmas season,
the council grew restless, they had yet to see reason.
"the skies remained clear, not a blip on the screen.
if the agency's serious, then results should be seen
we've funded your research, your training, your meals,
we don't see a thing from your side of the deal."

Edited: Removed my earlier post to "join" Warboys posts together
lol, I like it. Here's something for the X-COM side, slightly shorter because I'm at work :)
---------------------------------------------------
An alarm rang out
Hence forth, we sent a scout
Scream and panic, all was heard
The reason, surely absurd
Who would ever believe such claim
Pure ramblings of the inane?
The scout reports something here
Load up, no time for fear
Something moving in the dark
Laser sights on, for the mark
---------------------------------------------------
I'm surprised nobody else has commented :)
Very witty, well done

I'm very intrigued as to where this is going... :) I'm reading, but I didn't want to interrupt the flow ;)
-
Yeah, I probably didn't help there.
Warboy, maybe you should edit your 2nd post into the 1st, to prevent the break in flow that I caused :)
Edit: I deleted my interjection :)

Very nice!! :)
A coder... and a poet! Who knew?!

A few of my lecturers feel that coding is poetry. It certainly is creative.

That was great!

But why the snakemen? Of all the races in this game, for the snakemen to be the masters of them all.. I'm puzzled :)
-
sectoids, mutons and ethereals are cloned en masse.
-
Very nicely done, Dr WB.
-
Yep. Snakemen probably were modeled after the Lizards by Gollop. Lizzies said to be a super-intelligent race of tall draco-humanoids with "long" tails, basically human in bigger detail, but all dragon-like in small details: claws, face, scaly skin, etc..

Is that from the game files, or your own theory on it?
I always thought the Ethereals and the Sectoids were the same race, with the small guys somehow being the "drones" of their hive society, and the Ethereals being individuals allowed to "mature" and the ones running the whole affair, with the Brain being sort of their queen bee.
I thought the other races were either enslaved (Snakemen) or genetically created for a certain role (Mutons) or lesser creatures found throughout the galaxy and turned into terror weapons (Chrysalids etc.).
Cool poem anyway!

Ethereals and Sectoids are different races... ;)
Sectoids evolved and/or got genetically modified from Aquatoids from TFTD... XD

Nah. I reject your reality and substitute my own :)

Sectoids from Aquatoids are from the original lore... :P

Well, I stick to the first game, ignoring all the others :)
To me, TFTD, Apocalypse etc. never happened. Not as games, not as background...

The original ufopedia entry of Sectoids in the original game, still suggests an aquatic origin because of webbed feet and fingers... ^^
