in the battlescape, hitting "ESC" brings up the options screen. the same should apply to the geoscape IMHO.

Ehm... maybe this should be something other that ESC... this key should be use for cancelling operations.
1) Enter choosing shot mode, pres ESC and exit without entering in aiming mode.
2) Enter in prime grenade , pres ESC and exit without entering in throw mode
etc

I think (I'm not at a games-capable computer ATM) that it actually does both in the battlescape. if an operation that CAN be canceled is active, it cancels, but if there's no such operation, it opens the options (and even closes them again), so no problem there.
I'm just asking for the same functionality in the GEOSCAPE.

escape already opens options, but if you want to close options - you have to move your hand. another escape key doesn't close options. unfortunately.

that's in the battlescape, right?
so that makes two suggestions, then:
1) "ESC" should open/close options screen in geoscape
2) "ESC" should also close options screen in battlescape

they gave you what you wanted and now you want more :P
But yes ESC should be cancel current action, if no action available open option menu. I think that should be easy to implement both in Geo and Battle

what exactly was given? so far, nothing has been changed :P
all I was aiming for was more UI consistency between battlescape and geoscape... and along the way, we found some more things that would make sense.
so, to summarize:
ESC opens options in battlescape - check
ESC closes options in battlescape - to be implemented
ESC opens options in geoscape - to be implemented
ESC closes options in geoscape - to be implemented
ESC cancels current action in battlescape and/or geoscape - I'm actually not so sure about that. sometimes, you might want to save in the geoscape while for example an interceptor is chasing a UFO... if you then hit ESC and the interceptor breaks off, that might not be what you intended... :-[

Oh no that is not what i meant, I mean ESC will cancel an option window.... or maybe ESC always returns to Geo or Battle, so that if you are in the manufacturing/transferring/researching or any base management you can press ESC and that will bring you back to Geo. or In Battle if you are in the scanner/medikt/map window you press ESC and you return to Battle.
Also something i didn't think about is an "interception window" i would not want to press ESC and the interceptor break persuit.
