Post by: fjura on June 19, 2013, 04:51:46 pm
Hello,

can someone help me?

im trying to run this game on Windows/64bit and each time i get this error

Geodata/Palettes.dat not found

can someone tell me how to resolve this or where to get the data for the folder? The Rar file does not contain it. I also downloaded the installer but the same thing happened.

thank you

you need the original XCOM in your data folder.

We really should put in an error message explaining that if the file is not found, the original game data is required. Same topic crops up every so often ;-)

We did, but then people complained that the message didn't make sense for every error. :P Anyways if people won't read the instructions in the website and the docs and the installer and they also won't read anything in the error. You can't solve user error.

Just wait until you're shipping your own OXCMAP, OXCGFX, OXCSFX and OXCMUS packs, then people will stop asking because you'll have done away with the original stuff ;)

You've got Luke working with the map editors, a few people working on graphics, get Nils on some music, and some "open-source" sound fx, and bingo... It's oh so easy :D

Same problem here.

I own the disk from the Micropose game I bought years ago. I tried copying the data files from that disk, but still no joy. The instructions say I need to own the 'vanilla' version of the game. I own that. I can run the game vie DOSBOX version 0.74, but it is a major PAIN setting that up each time and I don't like the way the game runs.

I'd appreciate any help/ suggestions to get this up and running with OpenXcom so I can give that a try.

Thanks.

you need to copy the installed version from your dosbox drive to openxcom's UFO folder (using the nightly)

Thanks Warboy.

I open DOSBOX, install the original game from my CD. So the game files reside (temporarily) in the DOSBOX C drive. I am not too proficient with DOS. Do I try to copy these original game files from within DOS, or what?

I tried to do this using Windows Explorer (I am running Windows 7 SP1, 64 bit), but got two different error messages on two different attempts. One said (again) missing GEODATA/PALLETES.dat file, and the other said incompatible with 64 bit OS.

I appreciate your help.

i guess i need to see a directory listing? hard to say. first thing to do is confirm the file exists in OpenXcom/UFO/GEODATA/

if it does, try running as administrator (sometimes windows is finnicky about file permissions)
if it doesn't... that should be an easy fix.

as for the "incompatible with 64 bit OS"... i've not encountered that myself, the 32 bit version runs fine on a 64 bit OS as far as i can tell

FINALLY -- got it working. Directed OpenXcom to my CD Drive (in which I have the original game disk) to copy the original game files during install of OpenX.

Game seems to be working well, EXCEPT I'd like to run full screen instead of within a small window. How do I do this?

TU!
