I do not think you have to do any editing from N5 to N6.

Last edit was for L10 to N1.

What you always need to do is ALWAYS make a fresh install. Download the mod from moddb, put in the UFO folder, and copy the config file and your save game. That is it.

A breaking chance was introduced in N6 version, with the new "?cats 4 life?" path: that is to say, if player colpetes the divergin path before updatin to such version there is no problem , otherwise the possibility to have the cats stays forever, for a little more info check here.
