Terror from the Deep now available in the nightlies!

DISCLAIMER: This is not a final release! We did not ignore all your feedback for the last year! There will still be many more fixes and additions before the next milestone!

Due to popular demand and the satisfactory performance of Terror from the Deep in the stream olympics, we have decided to unleash it onto the nightly builds so that everyone can try it out. Our goal here is to get as much testing of vanilla TFTD and make sure it’s fully playable from start to end, before you all decide to mod the crap out of it. 😛 Please report all bugs and inaccuracies here, and let me remind you the game being too hard / too easy does not count.

Installation Instructions for 1.0 users:

  • A clean install is recommended. Extract the ZIP separately from 1.0 and reset your options to default.
  • Put your UFO game files in “openxcom/ufo/” and your TFTD game files in “openxcom/tftd/”.
  • Mods go in their own folders in “<save folder>/mods”. More details here.
  • You can switch between games in Options > Mods. Note that UFO mods aren’t compatible with TFTD and vice-versa.

With all that out of the way… enjoy like these fine folk have!

It doesn’t seem to work for me… I installed the latest nightly but it loads only the xcom files, not TFTD

Sorry my mistake, there’s no more “data” folder.
Just put your UFO files in “ufo” and TFTD files in “tftd”, they should have readmes explaining.

    I cannot express my gratitude.
I can still remember playing the demo mission 20 years ago.

    It’s so wonderfull.

    Thank you!

lobstermen are just too strong. Did one play through, got attacked at my main base 4 months in by lobstermen and they destroyed me.

At last! I couldn’t stop thinking about playing OpenTFTD since I saw OpenXCom. Thank you sooooo much!

Are there recommended settings which will make bug reports most helpful? E.g. I assume I turn on the two options marked “TFTD”, but what about the others?

This is brilliant. Hadn’t realized how much I’d missed this game until playing it again now in a decent format for modern PC’s.

For the player who found Lobstermen too strong…… They have very little stamina for movement and almost no natural protection against bladed weapons. Keep just out of their reach (I think it only required about 7 tiles away) then move in and dice them up with a knife (or similar).

In TFTD there was a research bug that required you to interrogate a deep one before a certain thing or else the game would bug out. is that bug fixed?

Fun fact: Earlier nightlies had no support for Tleth, since Levianthan was missing “spacecraft: true”, and enabling final mission was hardcoded for STR_CYDONIA_OR_BUST research

none of the research bugs from the original should occur in openxcom. if they DO, please log them on the tracker.

Cept they shoot you like 3 times every turn if you move toward them. Got MC up rather fast, and they are super easy to mc. GG psyonics are way strong.

This is a thing of very deep beauty. My only suggestion about the GUI is that it took me 5 minutes to find the TFTD selection, I thought I had installed it wrong.

But daggum, it’s hard. I started a quick “experienced” game, and turn 2 of the tactical they shoot grenades at me and kill 6 guys. Guess I need to go back to Beginner.

    Guys, THANKS!! This is awesome.

I have no idea how to install this it keeps saying error Geodata/wolrd.dat not found I put all the game files where it says to do it but I don’t really understand how to fix this

It should be available in the latest Android build, check the forum thread for more details.

Could someone please explain to me how to actually set up TFTD so that I can use it with OpenXcom as I cannot find any instructions anywhere. I set up UFO defence from Steam just fine with OpenXcom installer but I have no idea how to do it for TFDT. Help would be appreciated.

    THanks

Is this going to be compatible with the CD-ROM version with extra cut scenes, or only the harddisk version?
