What's up with the celatid animation?
« on: July 12, 2014, 09:26:09 pm »
The Celatid animation consists of 25 frames +3 death frames, but it seems openxcom only uses the the first 8.

Does anybody know why the other 17 frames are not used? The unused frames seem to be related to the celatid ufopedia page, where we can see a meat bag plus a hovering celatid.

Frame 25 shows maybe one of those egges mentioned in the autopsy report. Maybe the celatid was meant to be laying eggs on its death.

Was all this not completely finished in the original game? Questions over questions ...  ???

afaik, the "unused" frames are the celatid shooting animation. since they rarely ever shoot... I can't remember ever seeing one shoot, they always died right away... ;)

I also thought so, but they have no shooting animation at all in OpenXcom.
Can't remember how it worked in the original.

IS THERE ANY WAY TO NERF THE CELTID? THESE THINGS KILL MY SOLDIERS WITH FLYING ARMOR IN ONE SHOT. IT'S RIDICULOUS. THEY SHOOT ALL THE TIME ALSO AND NEVER MISS. SOMETHING IS WAY EFF'D UP HERE.

Sure there's a way to do it, just copy their entry to a new ruleset and set all their stats to 1. :P

Though I don't think it'll be very fun.

I just found out about this and I am quite curious. The animation is not used in OpenXcom neither in original PC X-Com. But from what I found it was used in PS version.

Is there any reason why its not used in OpenXcom or if it can be used?

The animation looks pretty good. Too bad it was not used in the game.

My guess is the Celatid was meant to be a "two-state" unit, where it can fly around to move, or land to take shots. Which would've been complicated for the engine to pull off thus why it was scrapped. :P

Is it still too complicated today?  8)
